NOISE: Metal rub Front Driver Side
NOISE: Metal rub Front Driver Side
Looking for input.
The sound is almost like Springs that aren't seated right. Its not a irritating high pitch scraping ie. shimmy dragging across caliper noise, but more like a low pitch metal to metal rubbing sound.
Actions taken:
Pulled the wheel and break pads off looking for something that may be wedged somewhere to drop. Didn't find anything. Brake pads are good to go, shimmies are in place. Rotation of the wheel while jacked up doesn't produce the sound Im hearing. Put everything back together and the noise isn't as bad at first but still there. Drive a few miles and the noise is back.
Observations:
Noise comes to life at low crawl speeds under 10mph. If you ride the breaks to slow stop you get that classic low pitch metal rub resembling springs, but the sound is "cyclic" meaning somewhere in the rotation of my wheel/caliper the noise starts and stops, so riding the breaks to a looong drawn out stop won't produce a looong drawn out noise which makes me think that it may not be the brakes alone.
The noise seams to dissappear after reaching about 20 or so MPH
Need an alignment badly and get terrible wobble at highway speeds. Wondering if riding it like this has stressed a bearing or something.
Thanks in advance for your input.

Thats where I would go next. Check the bearing. Lift your car with the jack and try to move your wheel around. If there is any play in the wheel it may be the bearing is out.
Not much to say, I know the strut mount is done and I get a vicious sqeek out of some link in the control arm. Struts themselves are about 8 months old.
I think I'll look at the wheels rotation when its jacked up again. I couldn't really see much when I took the brakes off yesterday evening. Thanks for the tip Bezerk.

Dont just check the rotation, actually grab the wheel and wiggle it around. Up, down, left and right. There shouldn't be any play in it. You may get some slop from the control arm so watch for that too!
UPDATE
Guys. Thanks a bunch for your input. I haven’t had an opportunity to check that wheel for a bearing issue. Been in NY for the past few days. Just got back Sunday evening.
Drove her all day Monday no problems until it began to rain. This might be a tell tale bearing problem but I don’t know. Weather permitting I’ll check for play in my wheel this evening after work.
Thanks again.

i had the same problem and i changed my bearing and got rid of the consistent metal noise. but now i have a sound coming from the same side where the wheel bearing was changed, front right. it sounds like metal scraping on metal and it occurs @ the same time as urs. i know it's not from changing the wheel bearing because the noise was there before i changed the bearings.
Im not really sure what to tell you. Did you replace the bearing yourself? I ask because if you got someone else to do it, maybe they used a bad part and the prob is still your bearing. I had that happen with my last bearing issue on the other side of my car.
Another thing to check might be your axle retaining pin. I believe this should rotate with your wheel because its attached to the axle, but if the pin isn't crimped down right and you've got a wobble in your wheel, I could see how that might make a noise, I dunno.
These are just guesses, I could be way off. Hopefully you find whats going on though.

like i said when the bearing was replaced the continous metal rubbing went away. what happens now is when i brake aftr driving for a while i get this metal scraping sound but it's not continous. before i got my braing it was making that noise even when i was driving.
