Car not starting after y-pipe install?! WTF? HELP PLZ! DD!

Hi there everyone, just got finished installing a fed-spec y-pipe from warpspeed. Just as we (friend and I) assumed that everything went smoothly with installation, and we cleaned up, we attempted to start the car. Now I believe the car is cranking and possibly turning over? Kind of like when you have a dying battery? However it just didn't fire up. After several attempts we managed to kill the battery, however I"m working on getting that recharged. We used the existing car's o2 sensors and didnt touch any wiring, and the y-pipe was lightly used, so we didn't do anything with gaskets, just stock pipe off, WS pipe back. This MAKES NO SENSE. I've searched and haven't pulled up anything similar, can anyone chime in on what to try?

I'd love to get this car started so I can drive home tonight -__-

If I were you, I would look over the areas where you worked. Even if you didn even plug in the O2's, the car would still start.

Might just be a coincidence and something else is the problem here

ya, I know about the o2 thing too, I rechecked all the 14mm nuts for the headers and the two on the cats (8 total) all tight. Nothing else has been touched on the car, wiring, etc.

We did attempt to start the car once with only the headers, which it did the same thing, So we gave up and bolted on the new (used) WS y pipe. Same issue. I'm waiting on my OBD2 reader to get some codes, if any, but very doubtful. Sorry if I'm in semi-panic mode, but any other ideas?

*reference*, this isn't us, but we attempted to do something like this earlier and car would just crank, not fire.

You dont need an OBDII to check for codes...

I know I don't, just my friends Innova one is really convienent =P
No ideas? I didn't reset the ecu before and after ypipe swap, though I don't think its entirely necessary just for it to start?

What if my o2's are plugged in, but damaged if I didn't take care of them while they were hanging around?

Recharge or replace the battery. Should fix it.

Check to make sure you didn't unplug or damage the crank sensor while removing the old y.

Damaged O2's will not affect the start of your car. It seems like it is coincidence or something was disturbed and you didn't notice. If the battery is starting to die from you making attempts go from there. You might have a weak battery.....

There is one underneath the crankshaft pulley and one on the front side of the engine where the engine and trany meet. It is about half way down. http://www.courtesyparts.com/betasit...1814_1816.html

ok the front Crank sensor was unplugged, and the car started beautifully, I Feel like a noob, but am very grateful for everyone's advice.

One last thing however! I have smoke coming from the front and rear of the engine bay, I'm assuming I'm having leaks where the headers hit the collector pipes.....Like I mentioned in my first post, I didn't use any gaskets, was this a mistake? Do I need these so called crush gaskets?

on the CPS being unplugged.

Why the hell wouldnt you use gaskets? You have an exhaust leak. Take the y pipe off and put it back on using gaskets.

are the gaskets in the little ridge inside the ypipe? I don't recall removing gaskets from the stock Y, but I'll figure it out, thanks!

The Warpspeed should have come with two new crush ring gaskets. Mine smoked for an hour or so after I put it on. Burning off the oil from the outside of the pipe.

Y pipe installed, after getting crush rings from autozone. My WS pipe was bought used, so I didn't have any =P

Thanks again for everyone's help, I am now that much more educated about working on the amazing 4DSC.

Final thoughts:

NO BEES IN CAN NOISE =)

Took longer than expected because of the CPS getting disconnected unexpectedly.

Was aware of it, but the growl is probably a bit more than I wanted.

Every other run or so, or when (auto)trans downshifts into lower gear, I get a really NASTY rattling underneath my shifter, I don't know what could be loose for the pipe to be doing this....I'm using the stock hanger/isolator.

Hissing upon 1/2 to WOT, but that's normal as I've read, supposedly due to flex section.

Not fully feeling benefits, until probably after 4k RPM (if that's not in my head) because I still have a knock sensor to replace.

Lastly, is it normal for most of the noise to be heard from the flex section area under the car (hence where I hear the most growl/least resonated noise) or do I still possibly have something loose?
Thanks again for everyone's input.

the "growl" noise u hear from the flex area is from the pre-cats not beeing there after the change. I also found it a little more loud than I wanted but I also got a Megan cat-back on er with a short ram intake. I use the silencer, and its still kinda loud. And yeah, the crush gaskets are your "seals" for the y-pipe to headers, so grab some new ones for sure.

Think you don't have any bees in a can noise? Give it some time. You'll notice it. Easier to notice in town where it can echo off of buildings. Also more noticeable if you swap out your cat-back for something louder.
