Two Maximas, one key
Two Maximas, one key
I have a 95 and a 96 Maxima that look like twins except for the after market wheels on one. They are both dark green. My question is can I have one side of the key cut for one car and the other side of the key cut for the other? Or, are both sides of the key used in the ignition and other locks for a single car?
This way I could just flip the key over to change from one car to the other.
Thanks,
Randy

You can pick which key you want to use, with your maxima from the dealership is a small key tag that has a number on it. if you bring that number to the dealership, you can get three locks and an ignition, then you can install them in the other car and *poof*. two cars, one key.
What if you decide to sell one, or worse yet one gets totalled? Chances are since you posted the question here you more than likely spoke to a few friends as well. And of course a few people who maybe don't think so much of you will hear of this and one day while you're playing your favorite sport, "poof" your keys turn up missing. Figure out the rest, don't do it. Theft or vandalism waiting to happen.
to the OP: this seems like a cool project just to do it, if for no other reason. The tumbler has pins on 1 side only, so yeah you can cut 2 different patterns on 1 key. I'm going to stop by HomeDepot and see how they cut their nissan keys.
