As I was pulling in my driveway, the oil pressure light came on. I immediately parked the car and shut it off, and have not started it since. It is being towed into the dealership tomorrow, as it is the only shop in my area that will work on newer cars (seriously, I called around).

Any ideas what is causing this? Any ideas at all???

Low oil pressure caused by low oil level (really low in order to have set off the oil pressure light) perhaps amplified by your driveway if it is an incline/decline.

 

UPDATE!!

Just got an update from the dealer: Turns out my car is 2 quarts low on oil!!! And I just had it changed less than two months ago!!

No visible leaks were found, and the oil pressure sensor and pump check out. any ideas WTF is causing this? I can only assume whatever it is is costly to fix.

 

The 3.5 is KNOWN to burn oil, if you are under warranty it's time to be aggressive and request a new engine!

 

Unfortunately, I'm at 77K, and thus out of warranty.

Reading this and other Nissan forums, it seems that comopression tests and PCV valves are common ideas tossed around. Any thoughts?

 

Have one performed (or a leak down test) and change the PCV, monitor oil 'consumption', and save all receipts.

 

3.5 > oil

No but seriously, top the oil off and check it every 500 miles to see how much you are burning. It could be some minor stuff, but most likely you have an oil burner and you never realized it.

 

Just curious, what is your build date?
