Foamy Gear Oil?
So...my car sits in the garage all winter. I just got done rebuilding my brake calipers and putting it all back together and the long back road by my house is completely dry and it's nice and sunny out.
Now, my tranny has always leaked since I did the tranny swap (still have automatic support bracket). This will be addressed shortly as I swap in the VLSD unit.
So since the car has been sitting w/o being started for about 2 months now, I decided to check the gear oil level and POSSIBLY take it for a mid-winter drive on the dry pavement.
I have the car completely level on the ground (not jacked up) and I take the filler plug out of the tranny. What leaks out is a considerable amount of foamy gear oil. It's still cool, as I've had the car running for about 10 minutes but haven't moved it at all. I've had this tranny slightly overfilled before but the oil that drips out then looks good.
What gives with the foamy gear oil? The tranny hadn't been engaged to even froth it up???

Might be temperature related but...
Just making sure, was the engine running when you checked the gear oil? While frothing typically isn't a good sign if it's just a little bit I wouldn't be too concerned. If you really want to know check it with the engine off after it's warmed up, just don't burn yourself

Yeah, I know...when I drove the car daily (summer and fall) I would tend to put a bit more in just so I wouldn't have to fill it as often...Problem will be remedied when I put a different tranny in shortly...
