What did you pay for your max?
What did you pay for your max?
I'm seeing tremendous price variations among maximas.
I'm interested in a 2002-2003 Maxima, leather, automatic, 70k miles or less.
Edmunds TMV and Galves say the car should be worth around $9500 at a dealer, but local dealers and private sellers are asking in the $11,000 to $15,000 range!
What gives?
I've looked at Ebay, and it seems like the $9500 # is pretty accurate, but I can't imagine my local market (DC) is THAT inflated for prices.

In 2003 I bought a 2001 Maxima GLE fully loaded with 32,000 miles on it for $14,900. Why? The internet manager posted the wrong price online. Print the ad, walked in, and made a dealer very angry. They wouldn't clean it, fill the tank or make me an additional key for the wife. I wish I still had my 01 GLE. I love my 05 SL. Hell, I wish I could have both. *sigh*
What year did you buy it though? These numbers don't help much unless we know how old the car was at the time.
Ugh... if you knew it was high, why did you pay it? People like you inflate the prices of these used cars!
I got my 68000 mile 02 GLE with sunroof and side-airbags for $13,000 about 5 months ago.
No problem so far except some normal things like blower motor died and fried the resistor 2 months after I got the car.
Also the cable problem for BOSE HU, but I had it fixed by placing 3 layers of Scatch tape on the back of the cable where it goes into the socket to give more contact.

Why why why do people do this.........
Got my 2002 SE 6MT with 92,000 miles last May for $9400..seemed nobody wanted it up in the mountains. Listed it for 11,500 on the lot, but asked for 9,900 on cars.com. I worked them down from there..
Why why why do people do this.........
Complaining about what people paid for their car. I just priced a 2002 Max on Edmunds in the D.C. area that is in outstanding condition and it gives a price of $12,356 and I would imagine if you put tax on that then $13,000 in not that bad. It is a free market and you will pay what you think is OK. If you can get one in the same condition for half the price then good for you but why why why would you be negative against what someone else paid.
$13,221 for a 2003 which should be closer to what a 2002 went for 5 months ago.

in 2004 i got my 2000 fully loaded se with a 5spd, sunroof, heated and powered front seats and side airbags, it had 60,000 miles and i paid 12,500 for it. was a little high but it was the only manual i found in 3 months of searching in the okc area so i paid for it.
i bought my 02 in august of 2005 for around 12,200 out the door. it's fully loaded minus the navi and has 80k'ish on it. bought it at an infiniti dealer which the previous owner traded in or something like that.
my car had only one owner when I got it, and it was really new. good tires and brakes, everything was in good shape. and also clean title.
if you get a car that looks good but always gives troubles to you, you will be so pissed off. so, price isn't everything.

Maxima's are going to always sell higher than normal. Insurance companies also charge more to insure maximas. Regardless, maxima's are always going to have a high market value.
I'm a happy owner of a 2003 gle fully loaded. leather, sunroof, heated seats and sterring wheel.
2003 gle
Bought in: 2006 with 20,000
paid 19,500
LOVE the car and it was a good deal. I'll have it till it dies.

Year that you bought it: Mar 2007
Miles on car: 74000

Merlot/Blk leather, ALL OPTIONS INCLUDING NAVI. Enkei 18" wheels, custom painted pieces on center console, clock housing, door handles, and seat controls. (The custom work isn't a great match, but at least it's not boring.)
Have loved the car every day since I drove it home from Memphis to Greenville, SC. No regrets.

2002 SE/automatic
Purchased: November 2007
Miles: 113,897
Price: $8000
1 owner car, immaculate cloth interior, brand new Yokohama 520s, very new brakes...but those brakes came with a cost, improper tightening (or reusing lock nuts) for the wheel bearings which backed off and took out a bearing and the ABS teeth on an axle.
Runs strong, decent (19.5 mpg) city mileage.
