Oil leak near firewall next to pulley. Need help identifying. Pics included

Alright so I have an oil leak on the rear of the motor. Guess u would say next to the pulleys. I dunno what this thing is called so that why I am asking. I havent looked good, it been too cold, but I have noticed there has been oil on this for a while now and it looks to be getting worse. Now there is oil on my axle and well it has dripped down onto my LCA bushing.

I would like to look into fixing this so if anyone could tell me what this is or if it can even cause an oil leak that would be great.

Here the pics.

That looks like powersteering fluid. And that is a picture of your powersteering pump btw. Unless it could be coming from your valve cover.

yuuupppp, power steering fluid, replaced my lca's last year cause of a line leak drippin down on the bushings. check the hose comin fron the resevoir, its about a foot and a half long, they dry up and its also under pressure so its your most likely suspect.

Oh really? Well that cool I guess. I just thought it was oil. It still may be oil. I havent investigated it to much. I know I burn roughly 3/4 quart of oil say every 4K.

Yes I have checked all my fluids and the power steering fluid is never low. It has always been in between those 2 marks. With it all over the power steering pump and on my axle and bushing you really wouldnt think it would be power steering fluid considering there really isnt any missing from the reservoir. I know I have a minor leak under the reservoir but it not leaking enough to cause any damage. The hose just stays a bit wet at the top.

Guess I will rip the wheel off one day since it like 35 here now and was 60 here yesterday and I will take a look. Id like to get this fixed. I hate knowing there problems with my car.

Here 2 more pics.

I have the very same problem with the PS pump wet and none of the hoses leaking. I am sure it isn't PSF since there is an unique smell to the it vs engine oil.

I am suspecting it is engine oil though I haven't had a chance to root cause the leak. I am due for an oil change so I will check it again and see what is exactly happening under there next weekend.

That's what I meant too.. Also recently I did a PS flush with Mobil1 ATF, so I know the fluid is new, and since there is no decrease in levels in the reservior, I am beginning to wonder if it is PS fluid in the first place.

I am leaning towards engine oil but I will know for sure next weekend when I get there and spend more time analysing the leak.

OK. I got down under my car and I see the leak from the engine. It is almost certainly where the tranny meets the engine and I am leaning towards the rear main seal. Anyway, RMS leaks are quite common on high mileage cars, one cannot get away from it, it is going to happen sooner or later on high mileage vehicles.

The part is cheap something like $25 but the labor is too expensive. Don't know if it is worth $700 for fixing a $25 part?
