getting tired of not being able to put people in the back

HR and Illuminas all around.

My car is a heavy pig due to the extensive dynamatting and system. My car sags nicely. Put passangers in the back and it's all over. Its bumpstop city.

However my car handles awesomely. BUT I CANT STAND THE STANCE AND HOW IT LOOKS LIKE IHAVE 6 PEOPLE STUFFED IN MY CAR ONCE I PUT 2 PASSANGERS IN THE CAR. IT'S CORNY!

Im thinking of putting the oem SE rear springs in the back and just leaving the HR's up front. What do you think? will it make my rear a boat? Or will having the illuminas keep the rear in control. Anybody have this setup? Thanks

My idea of "boat" comes from when I had a blown shock in the rear - hitting a bump midcorner would send the back end up into the air and over to the side... and they say you cant drift fwd
Maybe get KYBs?

level,
Im not going to change out any struts. The struts are illuminas and they are staying. Im just thinking of putting the OEM SPRINGS back on the rear to raise it up so it doesn't look like a squating pig when i have alittle weight back there. But i dont want the car to lose its grip/handle of the road bu switchig over to the OEMS again.

F A M ..... you're loosing more overall control by having more weight than you would if you went back to the OEM set-up. IMHO!

I don't think it'll affect your handaling that much by going back to the SE OEMs. But it will help the longjevity of your struts and set the rear up just a bit more. You could look for ways to lighten your load a bit too. That may be the best solution overall.

What have you got for a system, I run 3 amps and a single 10" Alpine Type S in an MDF box at 1.64 cf (big box in otherwords) but I don't have 2 tons of Dynamat so ...

My H&R sag in the rear as well. I want to get maybe Eibach in the rear or ground controls. I think stock SE springs will raise it too much and will look bad.

Ok, let me put it this way:
In general, there are just two suspension setups, soft and firm. Soft = comfortable and yes, saggy under weight; and firm = sporty (dont like that word but it does the job in this case) and uncomfortable. Basically unless you have a BMW, there is no in-between. I am not sure what you define as good "grip/handle of the road" but if your rear end really slushes down that much with just two passengers then I doubt you know what a "sporty" suspension setup really is. Sporty equals firm, which, in turn, little sagginess with two passengers. When my ~230lbs friend gets into his crx, the suspension doesnt give way. Period.
So a solution to your problem is: You want good handling? You don't want the car so sag with passengers in the back? STIFFEN THE SUSPENSION. If you think it sags too much with aftermarket springs, then putting OEM ones back in wont solve the problem. Dont raise the car, just stiffen it.

I have KYB AGX's and S-techs. Put 2 passangers in the back of my car and the exhaust starts to bang on something underneath by the rear axle when I hit bumps. I do not allow more then 1 passenger in my car. I set the KYBs at 3 front 6 rear. I dont think it sags... (dont c my car from the outside when theres passangers in it) however it does make it too low since the exhaust starts to hit something. Car already drops 2 inches from the S-tecs. So.. like the dude said above, stiffen the suspension up.
Put the illuminas on a stiffer setting maybe? Or just go with stiffer springs.

They sell little rubber inserts that you can put between your spring coils. Check Autozone. This might just work. Cheap, easy, allows you to keep what you like about your set-up when it's just you in the car and (hopefully) solves your sagging problem when you have passengers.

I did a 5th gen setup with OE springs in the rear and H&R's up front.
The stance was great and the ride was excellent as well. The reason he went with OE rear springs was because he towed a small trailer and wanted the suspension to be able to handle the load. I was actually suprised at how well the car rode and looked with that setup.

Now as for as the 4th gen goes... Our rear ends are up a bit more then 5th gens. So the rake would be a bit more, but I don't think the ride would suffer that much if any bit at all. You can adjust the Illuminas nice and firm to make the handling even.

Hit me up it you'd like to give this a try. I'll do the work at my shop, we'll see how it rides and if you don't like it, we can switch it back.

.... I would love to see your hearing test results....

.... Wow I refuse to put in a custom box my friend made. He designed it with engineering software for Premium sound from one 12" woofer.. It sounds AMAZING.. clean Bass and NO CAR RATTLE thanks to the box design.. but it weighs like 50lb with AMP... and i feel like its too much wait to lug around...

hmm wow after seeing all these satisfied customers.. I'm really thinking about going back to stock i30t springs... in the rear for more travel.

and rears your can swap out yourself without much trouble at all.

my box in the trunk is about 40lbs and its a 12" sup in a ported box and yea you are right i coudl feel a bit of the weight but i dont think its that drastic that it would affect my performance... its when you add over 200lbs of audio to your car that you are in trouble lol.

i guess it comes down to the pros and cons, i like to listen to music when i drive but i like my car to have good performance aswell so i wont go crazy and put 10 subs in the trunk for now the 12" will do and maybe later on ill reduce to a smaller sub . I still havent lowered my car or put a skirt on it :P so i guess we wil see if it sags like ***** or not :P
