Tranny flaring from 1st to 2nd

off late my tranny has a little flare going from 1st to second only on WOT. when it goes into 2nd gear, the rpm will be at about 4200 then go down to 4000 before going up again to 6k+ (happens for very short time the drop in rpm) car has 75k miles, any ideas? all service done on time.

how do we reset the ecu btw? in case that helps

Hey man, it seems like you're driving a manual tranny, correct? All that means is that your clutch is nearing the end of its life. The clutch can't hold the power of the 1 - 2 shift, so it slips a little bit.

Eventually, it will get a little worse, than worse, until even when you are at a light, and start off nice and easy, the clutch will slip. It's ok man, everyone has to do it at some point or another!!

EIDT: Never mind, since you said "when it goes into second gear" I guess that means you're an auto. That might mean a rebuild of at least the torque thingy thats comperable to a clutch (I forget what its called) in a manual.

Torque converter, and if you see his sig he's a GLE; only available as an automatic (factory).

If you're driving a stick ignore this message. It wasn't clear whether you had an automatic or a stick but there is a technical service bulletin for a 1,2 and 2,3 shift delay for automatics.

I got pulled away from my computer after I started this message and saw that soonerfan beat me to the punch but he's right on the money. I had my car fixed under warranty for this well known concern.

if an MT has a delay between shifts, thats the drivers fault

isn't the rpm suppose to drop after the car shifts then goes back up? if so what is the problem. The way you explained it, it seems liek it is normal.

i searched a few threads before i posted this and from what i found it seemed like the TCM issue was mostly happening in normal driving not at WOT. mine is an auto.

nissan shuld do a recall on the TCM!! there were so many threads on it.

Since the problem is not happening anymore should i leave it? or still go about replacing the tcm? any sure shot way of knowing if this is the problem? thanks guys

edit: searched up the TSB on this came up with the following link but its dead:

If a manual is slipping or delaying engagement it could be:
  1. A worn pressure plate
  2. A worn clutch plate
  3. Bad slave cylinder
  4. Bad throw out bearing
  5. Leaking engine rear main seal
  6. Etc.

Saw a mention of that in the service manual for my car. If the TCM or soleniods don't fix a shift problem and the ATF is red and unburnt, next step is to replace the VB.
