Searched: Car wont start YAY
OK so I bought a 2000 se maxima about a month ago from a member on here and i have had nothing but problems. He said that the car was throwing the ses for the cas so he replaced them the day i picked up the car or said he did. He said that nissan said the ses would go off after a couple miles but it didnt. The car ran fine and i drove it here and there and i let it sit for about 2 weeks then drove it the past 3 days and it was amazing it started instantly before some times it would take a couple seconds of cranking. So tonight i walk out to my car and it just cranks over and over and no start. I will check the most common things that most people suspect on here as i have searched. I made this post because the ses light turned off 36 hours ago so that kind of supprised me but the car started and ran fine and now this.
well, if it turns over than its not the battery unless its not giving enough juice for the electronics, you have to give us a bit more info of whats going on before we can point you in the right direction. To begine, make sure you put a nice new battery in to rule it out first. Then make sure you have gas in the car, at least a 1/4 tank (gotta cover the basics first). Also, if you have a second key for the car, try to start the car with the other key. If you don't have a second key, try flipping the key on the other side when you put it into ignition and try starting the car (with a good battery). Check your fuses. Both inside the cabin and under hood. Check all of them and test them with a multimeter if possible.
This will conclude the basics. (hope i didn't miss anything.)
If it still dosn't start then we'll have to get our hands a bit dirty for more indepth diagnosis.
Test to make sure the fuel pump works.
Check to make sure theres spark and sufficient spark.
etc, etc.

I would try jumping it off just to make sure it's not the battery. I've seen cars that will turn over but not start without a jump. In my job I usually jump start at least 5 or 6 cars a week.
You should also check the plugs. If the plugs are old and have "gapped" the car will be hard to start but run fine once it gets going. If the plugs are gapped it will take more juice to get them to throw a spark. Even if it has enough to turn it over strongly it wont have enough to throw a spark so jumping it off might help.

ok got the code checked and its the crank position sensor and now it wont start again. Does this sound like a problem the CPS would cause? or am i dealing with somthing else here? Btw its the 1335 the sensor near the crank shaft pulley

cleaned sensor and still wont start but an idea poped into my head and i will try it as soon as the car cools down but maybe it wont start when its hot that would explain why it started up fine this morning and now it wont start. So still wondering if the sensor could be causing this problem. Thanks in advance
Not from direct experience, but if the ECU isn't getting the correct cps (or cas) signal, then it will never run right. The good thing about that particular sensor is that it's an on-off sort of thing, rather than working with a range of signals, as does an O2 sensor or a TPS. It's either got signal or it doesn't, and if it's intermittent, then it has to be either a bad sensor or bad wiring to the sensor.

I agree. I knew what you meant.
