Totalled the Maxima in accident.

Driving south on a two way road...Light is green. Get to the intersection, and suddenly there is a honda accord crossing the intersection out of nowhere. Slam the brakes and T bone her going roughly 30 mph. Airbags deployed. Got witness's name and address. Lady driver was in shock. I have a bruise on my wrist.
I hate driving on these congested Brooklyn streets. People don't look, check mirrors, eat, do makeup, and talk on the cell phone.
The problem is that the car is insured under my moms name. Any advice with how to handle this situation?

I have no advice but to look out and always be careful. Things like this happen everyday. Beside you suppose to look both directions when approaching an intersection in case of a red light runner, or police pursuit, etc. Besides Zargon, the same thing can still happen to him if he looked the opposite direction. He did nothing wrong if he had the ROW.

I guess that's some good advice. From now one I won't take green lights for granted. I will definitly look both ways. I noticed one thing...that I got a bit more "comfortable" in my driving lately. I'm going to the ER to get an Xray run on my wrist.

really sorry about what happened man, I'm driving a car that's registered under my mom so I guess I should be a little more careful when I'm driving. So what did the cops say about you driving your mom's car?

It depends on your insurance company. Check the policy because they all varies.

Make sure you take some good pictures of the intersection. How fast was she going anyway?

Hopefully you called the police and got a report, this way there is a legal document saying she was at fault, which you can submit to your insurance company and they can tell her company to pay out the damages.

Sorry about the loss man,Get the report filed up to the police and then get the pictures of the accident and then get plenty of the witness. The insurance will look at this and than make her pay for it. Let your mom get involved and the attorney invovled.

that's not even realistic.. people can't be expected to keep their eyes ahead of them 100% of the time.. people take their eyes off the road momentarily to do things that aid in safe driving, such as checking your mirror to switch lanes.. he glanced down at his temperature gauge, not to put ketchup on a hamburger

yeah, that's true that you can't take green lights for granted now adays.. i've tried to get in the habit at looking both ways even at a green light, cause you never know when a honda is gonna come flying through!

Glad you're ok.
Yeah whenever I'm at a light ant it turns green, I still look both ways before moving.

good you are ok. I fell asleep on my max one night, the angle/curve on those concrete barriers saved me... I was more worried about the car than me.

I got the police report today. The officer did not write down that she blew a red light. The problem is that my witness couldn't stay at the scene. I got his name number and address. I am going to take pictures of the intersection as well. I wonder what to do with the witness though. My mom is calling the insurance tomorrow and is going to find out.

This is really a bad string of events for me. I hit a...crater..not even a pothole...a month ago and destroyed a rim, and now this. Any recommendations on a car? I need 4 doors, V6, and something that can handle the urban mess of potholes and craters.

You say this as if it's the Maxima's fault for the damaged rim (OEM??). Regardless of manufacturer, no rim can withstand hitting a "crater" at the right speed as you put it. Here's an Get another Maxima!

No, I am definitely not blaming the Maxima for the bent rim. It was an enkei rs6 17 inch rim. The DOT is to blame for not putting a damm metal plate over it. They may as well put snipers behind trees and aim at your wheels as you drive down the road. At least I wouldn't damage my control arm..
I am looking at maximas now. I picked 3 colors. Midnight blue, the pearl color, and black. I want a 2002-2005. Looking for a fully optioned one with less than 70K.

the fact that she is not written down as being at fault on the accident report is going to hamper you a bit unless your witness can come through you might end up having to use your own insurance to pay for the new car as unless she gets on there at fault it might end up being a "no fault" accident.

Did she receive a ticket at the scene for the violation or any violation? IF she did then you should be better off.

And in my wreck I was in the same situation except i had witnesses that stayed and the lady got a ticket at the scene
