IS IT TIME TO SAY GOOD BYE?

Well my daughter heard a loud pop and the car started pulling to the side. It looks like from the strut back to firewall part of the frame let loose. Can it be fixed? Should I have it fixed? Will it be safe for her to drive? It is a 92.
The engine is great only 135,000, just put in a new alternator last month, new fuel lines, etc. The body is ok for 17 years some rust outside must have been some underneath too.

the control arm to the gusset, or gusset to frame? either way, as long as the threads on the frame are OK you can just get new bushings, get replacements of any broken parts from the JY, put it together and get it aligned. depending how badly it broke i wouldn't drive it if something actually BROKE. year/trim/engine won't matter in terms of replacent parts or repair procedure. the only differences in the suspensions are the spring and strut rates, and the stiffness of the swaybar. but the parts are all interchangeable. as long as you aren't mixing and matching coil springs (which you won't need to even lay a finger on) then you will be alright to use wehatever source is cheapest for you

LMAO.
I'll bet the control arm bushing finished disintegrating and that is all that happened.
you were driving with a leaky power steering hose which will destroy the bushing in short order.

ya.. all my bushings are destroyed which is why i baby it around corners these days. I know it's better not to drive it. but it's my DD and it's either that or walking 6 miles to my parents' house every morning and back every afternoon. PS leak definitely killed the ones up on the passenger side... but i've never had any loud pops

I don't have pics but the metal seems rusted through from the frame in two places. One near where the stut and than back to under the console. It didn't look good according to the mechanic that looked at it. He said he didn't think it was worth him fixing it this morning.
Anyone interested in buying it for parts?

Sounds bad. However, nobody knows where his interests lie - get second opinion.

You really do need to get us pics if you want quality replies. Otherwise we're just guessing.

So let me add my guess.

If it's rusted through enough for the for the front suspension to give way, it's too far gone to repair. Rust doesn't usually attack just one side of a car. You might repair this problem only to have something else will give way due to rust, only this time at a much less opportune time.

Shoult I can't get under the car now to take pictures. The mechanic said the same thing about the rust as you.

Typically the rear wheel wells rust through first. Take bright light, trunk open, peek under upholstery, both sides. See the road, belts drop? If so, read this linky [maximaboi] 10-21-2004, 02:18 AM: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....223&highlight=

if there is bad enough rust to screw up the alignment, junk it.

THATS WHAT I WAS TALkING ABOUT.

he said there's a pop and there's rust AROUND the strut frame.
i belive once you raise up the car the frame will contract back in.
you might be able to save it by welding it together..if it's worth that much to you.

85k on the speedo...
only way to know is to get under and look. if things seem dislocated, they need replacement.
