bad exhaust

just yesterday my exhaust pipe rusted through right before the muffler. Is this what to expect with a stainless steel exhaust system on a 2000 with 139,000 miles. My guess would be yes..... but anyway what would you recommend to do about it? replace the pipe with a cheaper quality pipe, or a new stainless piece, replace most of the system with an upgrade? or try to find someone with a whole used system for sale?

thanks in advance. just want to do the right thing.
