Pacesetter Catback
Pacesetter Catback
Anyone out there ever use the pacestter catback system! I'm curious what it sounds like? But it comes with a pretty good size resonator along with a twin tip muffler! Piping is 2.25" slightly larger than OEM!
Warpspeed's catback doesn't come with twin tips and is rumored as quite loud unless equipped with the quiet muffler (single tip)! I installed a Pacesetter catback system on a Honda Prelude and it sounded pretty good...nice and deep and not raspy or ricey, and is holding up well! 2yrs since install!

Re:Pacesetter Catback
Pacesetter has a reputation for making parts that others do not, VG30E headers for the Maxima for example, that is their niche. Their parts look great, but appearance is all. They do not last or perform as well as the higher priced, more reputable companies, like Cattman. It is, as always, you-get-what-you-pay-for.

The Maxima catback is slightly larger than stock so the velocity should good with stock manifolds and even better with thier headers. I'll try them and let yall know!
so far, from what i've seen, one person bought pacesetter and it didn't work out....so now everyone swears against them. i had a full set (headers to muffler) with my last VG...never installed it, so it sold with the car. well i recently talked to the guy that bought it from me, and he said he didn't have any problems with the install, no fitment issues.
maxima.org is afraid of change. might as well just keep it stock, unless someone cool has already done it!!
OMGAWD PACESETTER SUCKS!!! but just for the record, i didn't find out for myself, it's just what i've heard from everyone that heard it from everyone else back in 99-2000.

I actually have installed thier product on a couple of vehicles: hi-temp painted headers (naked now) on my 86.5 Hardbody pickup 4 yrs ago and they've been great. I just wish I would've purchased the armour coated headers! the fitment was good, I did clean up the header port entrance weld splatters. But hell I did that on every header I've ever installed even my Cattman Headers needed minor clean up! The catback I installed on that Honda Prelude had good fitment and sound was really nice and they really enhanced the sportiness of the car!

you, my friend, are a rare breed.
good luck with the install, keep us posted, i would like for people to see how it goes so they can get out of the hate phase.
The OP is talking about a cat-back system.
I guess your chances of a Pacesetter system lasting as long as something put together at a shop (welded crush pipe, generic resonator, Magnaflow/Dynomax, etc. muffler) are going to be about the same.
It will probably last as long as you own the car, unless you live somewhere with a lot of salt or you think you will own the car over 5 years.
My biggest concern would be how things fit. Pacesetter has a reputation with Maxima owners as having items that don't quite fit. If you have an exhaust installed at a shop it will fit.
The headers have shown to be lacking in power gains. Plus, the y-pipes have proven gains and are easier to install.
I have a GReddy cat-back and it fits great. I have had it on over 3 years and no problems, except the original resonator rusted. It did come from a state with salt, though. The rest of it is in great shape, though. I also have a cattman stainless y-pipe and it fits perfectly.

You seem to like to argue with me over stuff like this all the time. I say these things because I've been there and done that, not because I'm a guy who isn't willing to try new things. I've tried lots of stuff and wound up taking it off because it sucked. I suggest you put your attitude aside and learn to listen to the members that are trying to help instead of insulting them and their decade of experience dealing with these cars and products.
Do some more research before you talk BS you haven't been around to see. We've been dealing with Pacesetter for the 10 years I've had a Maxima, and they consistently have installation and quality problems.

my point was mainly that just because one person had a bad experience, it doesn't mean that all sets were made poorly. i've no problem with those that have the experience giving their opinions, but i hate it when this pacesetter discussion comes up, because theres really not enough backing on either side of the argument to make a determination (IMHO).
i'm not out to argue with you, i just don't like how the .org seems to have strong feelings against things that aren't 100% understood, either way...but i am suprised that chris and i aren't already arguing.

if i saw more 'proof' that shows the horrid construction of pacesetter headers, then i would be less likely to argue the matter.
EDIT: and my apologies for the argumentative nature i seem to carry lately. I stopped visiting maxima.org because of all teh closed-mindedness and noob bashing i was beginning to see more of. nothing personal.

Thanks for all the response regarding the Pacesetter Catback system! How long ago was Matt's bad experience? Who know's... Companies change and most of the time improve upon it's Quaility assurance. Hey if I'm lying... hasn't Cattman's Header design improved with time? I read that old post #10 with that 1000hp mustang mechanic....He could have returned it.... they have a warranty! I was sent the wrong header for my Hardbody pickup and i simply returned it to Summit at no cost to me and received the right one and it's been installed for 4 yrs no problems!
The reply post by 94gse was appreciated! When was the Catback installed? I'll adjust my rear sway bar links down if I have too! Just for everyone's perspective, I have returned products to Cattman Performance (03 Y-pipe)because of the part not being complete and missing fittings, etc... so does that mean Cattman performance sucks? Of course not!!! Brian has increased his QA just like most performance companies and the competition is so fierce you have too, if you want to survive! So to all the Pacesetter haters, I'll post picture once I get to that point. As for the headers...not making any power! It's all about the combo! Intake, Cam, Exhaust and other little items that increase an engine's efficiency! There aren't to many N/a vehicles out there that make big gains from headers alone, still utilizing Oem restrictive cat and catback along with it's non port matched intake tract and restrictive air filtration system! So we'll see what happens, really soon with my little project!
