Hey guys, my '99 SE is running like a dog. It's got about 50,000 miles on it and it's running like it's on 5 cylinders. My guess is a clogged fuel filter (which I've neglected to replace thus far) or a bad sensor somewhere. Any ideas? No dummy lights or anything, it just feels doggy and is running like I've got a bad tank of gas or something. What's weird is that 2 out of three times I drive the car, it feels as strong and clean as ever. Then sometimes I get in it and it's like there's a damn banana in the tailpipe. Any ideas? I'm about 4 months away from my lease being up and with it running like this I'm about to eat the run out of the lease and go trade this thing on a WRX. I can't believe I managed to kill a Maxima in 50,000 miles.

 

I think that you are right about the fuel filter. You ought to change the air filter and the spark plugs also. A can of fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank wouldn't hurt either.

 

man..that's gotta be frustrating. you know, since it's off and on, it could be debris in your gas tank getting stirred when you fill gas and settling near the pump when you don't drive for a while. Hope you find the problem and good luck...
