? About Drives Axle and Trans.

We have tried just about everything and this DAMN DRIVER SIDE AXLE WONT BUDGE . I have searched and some say remove pass. side and knock it out with a screwdriver through the trans.; is this OK for 5speed? FSM say for Autos. Its only the half shaft thats stuck in the trans. the rest has come apart. Like I said above I have searched and it was unclear to me if the above method works for a 5speed( my friend thinks it wont fit all the way through). any and all comments are welcome THANKS TO ALL!

PS: THE CAR IS NOT ON A LIFT! (jack stands)

There was a similiar thread a few weeks back about a guy who had two shops that gave him back his car saying they couldn't get it out, another guy chimed in where he actually had to pull the tranny off to get his little halfshaft remains out!!!!!!!!! That was last resort, attempt to bang it from the other side, however since you are open-dif you will need to use something narrow enough to slip past the spider gear pin and not damage it.

Have you tried 2 prybars at the same time about 180 degs apart?
also try to slightly alternate your pressure back and forth between the two prybars. this usally works .
i have never heard of having to take an trans out to get an axle out and i have quite a bit of experience with Nissans.
also I am a little leary of saying this but I am sure you can use common sense and not break the trans case , but dont be afraid to apply some pressure if you know what I mean.
good luck

I think a really long 3/8"s extension clears, but don't quote me on that. Look in from the passanger side so you can see the big cylindrical peice that you must clear.

I just changed both my front axles a few days ago. I ran into similar problems. I used a ball-joint pry bar (looks like a tuning fork) and pound it with a huge hammer. Both axles came out with ease.

To the op. Try using your foot to apply pressure to the end of the crowbar. Mine popped out with very little effort when I did it about a year ago using this method.
