Tip of spark plug...GONE!?

So, I was missfiring like a **** on the way to work. On lunch I decided to check for codes since my CEL is on anyway from a bad O2 sensor (on order). Shoots out code: 0604 Misfire in cyl 5. I pull the plug and the fkn tip of it, the part where the spark is made is gone. Just gone. Hooray for Bosch Platnums.
So...I guess its sitting on my cylinder somewhere!? Imma just put a new plug in and see what happens. lol. Also, the other end, the part the connects to the coil pack is stuck in the coil pack.
I hate Mondays now gimmie some sound feedback. Please?

first, NGK is the recommended plug for your car. second, when you reinstall your ngk plugs, use some boot connector protector so that the plug doesnt get stuck on the coil pack. third, ouch that sucks!

lol...yeah, I used the boot stuff. NGK, yeah, Im just gonna replace the one plug with another bosch platnum to stay consistant cause if anything major fkn up now cause of the broken plug, no use in replacing them all right now. If, in a month the car is still running swell, NGK here I come. lesson learned.

O.K., wait... look at this figure.

Which part is missing?

If it's the "terminal" it's probably stuck in the coil pack boot.

If it's the "side electrode" or "center electrode" then you might have plugs in the wrong heat range.

If it's one of the electrodes is it "broken" or does it look burned or melted away?

its the side electrode. Looks like its broken off!! I can see where it was attached to the plug...like a clean break. The center electrode looks perfectly intact. The other plugs look just fine..

not trying to be arrogant or a *** but do yourself a serious favor and get yourself some ngk's

is there any dents or things of that nature around the electrode?

how long ago did you install your boschs?

get the NGK's, whether it be just that one plug or all of them, i woudlnt want to risk it happening again. did the tip of the plug fall into the cylinder? you want to be "consistent", but being consistently wrong doesnt make anything any better.

Imma be consistantly wrong in using the Bosches until this weekend. Thanks, for everybody saying the same thing "use NGK's". I fkn get it already...ok?
The piece that missing is prolly in the cylinder...Oh well..seems to run alright and Im not about to try to get it out. Anyway, I put a new plug in, cleared the code and she runs nice n smooth. I have no clue what happened to that piece nor do I really wanna think about it. lol.
Just following up.

either the side electrode melted and is gone or it went through the exhaust valve and out the exhaust.

Wow, that's a first. Try using a telescoping magnet and see if you can fish it out.. Hopefully went out the exhaust valve without marring the cylinder walls up to bad and causing all sorts of nastiness.

That's what I was thinking. Hoping that my car shat it out through the exhaust. A full 24hrs later and still no probs. I almost bought bosch platnum 2's or autolites at walmart tonight but then heard the voices of 1000 max owners yelling at me. Lol. NGK's are going in on saturday

its not that everyone is yelling at u....we're just looking out for u.
im not gonna lie, i heard so much bad crap about using boschs, but i did not have a single problem with them when i used them years ago. so i was the same way. i didnt give a crap about wut everyone said. back then i didnt know the recommendations. but after hearing peoples issues with them, i decided to get the ngks. better to be safe than sorry.

That's a fine idea but I'm not certain that plug electrodes contain ferrous material.

If you've got the micro attachments maybe trying to suck whatever's left out with a shop-vac might work.

I have done the same to the NGKs. Its not just Bosch. My big question is why did it happen. Are you running FI or hose? These things don't just overheat and break off of a stock or lightly modified car. I was running too much hose when mine burned off the first time. Later I went turbo and it happened again once when I was running too lean. You might need to richen her up a little bit. As for the electrode, they either get burned into the top of the piston and stay there or they just get spit out of the exhaust valve. If she is running ok, then you have no worries. Might want to check compression just in case.

its not that bosh makes bad plugs its just that they were never designed with jap engines in mind. Bosh plugs are made for german cars (bmw, mercedes) and will not perform correctly on any jap application. NGk and denso are designed for jap engines so they would perform poorley in a german application. If you use parts not made with your car in mind you will always have problems. With that being said I would get those plugs out and replace them before you have more problems.

4th generation SE spark plugs

Hello,
I'm new here and am looking to replace my plugs this weekend. I bought the Bosch platinum plugs but read on the threads that they aren't a good fit, unlike what Autozone stated . I verified this with my dealer who gave me a discount on the Stock NGK's ($10 a piece).

My mechanic will help me do the rear 3 since they are a bit complicated for me. Is there anything I need to know when doing the install?

Buy a Haynes manual. A chimp can do a spark plug change.

^^ +1 a chimp pretty much could do it. but i can see how it would be confusing if you just bought the max and never worked on cars.

i know i am getting a little off topic but if i remeber the rears are pretty much the same as the fronts. the only diffrence is that you will have to move the evap out of the way to get to the one on the drivers side (you will need either a 10mm or 12mm deep socket iirc). and there is no cover over the rears.(its been a while since ive worked on a usim )
