99 car/ 98 ecu/ high idle
99 car/ 98 ecu/ high idle
Back ground:
the car is a stock 99 5spd se with a 98 ecu. I swapped the ecu to get rid of the nats system and because I fried the 99 ecu. The car ran perfect before the ecu swap but now has problems with idle.
idle is at 650rpm for maybe the first 20-30min of dirving. After that the car then starts to idle at 1600ish. The car drives fine before and after the idle change. It doesn't seem to matter how I drive during that first 20 min time frame to cause this problem.
I have 3 codes showing. p1400, p1492 & p0443. The codes seem to be for 2 evap and erg.

Test performed
1. I pulled the evap canister control valve because the 98 ecu can't control it and was raising my idle even higher.
2.I sprayed carb cleaner around all vac hoses but they idle didn't change at all
3.scan tool results
1600rpm idle: 650 rpm: fathers de-k w/CBE:
tps - 1.9-2.3 % 1.9 0
MAF - 6.57 gr/se 3.45 2.15
Load - 16% 21.1 19
MAP - 25 kpa 30kpa -
O2s1 - .63 - .83v .1 - .6 .1 - .7
O2s2 - .9 .11 .3
Timing - 33deg 11 15
STFT1 - .7 - .5% 0 - .7 0 - 1.5
LTFT1 - 6.2% 4.6 -1
STFT2 - 0 - 4.6% 2 -3 .8
LTFT2 - 7.8% 9.3% -1
Can anyone please help or tell me what other test to do.

One of the first things that come to mind is that the 99 EGR system is electronically controlled, whereas the 98 is vacuum.
So perhaps your EGR system is causing the idle problem, since there is nothing at all to control it.

I forgot to mention that I pulled the egr temp sensor. plus arounding the manual it should be closed until it gets a signal from the ecu. Should I completely pull the erg from the ex manifold and see if it stops?
I was also thinking maybe there is a manual override for the evap system so once the pressure sensor reads to high it will purge the vapors even without a signal from the ecu.
1 last thing is that i can't erase the code manually or with the scanner. so I don't know if that plays a roll. the scanner confirms the erase but they sta in the ecu.

You probably should remove it then. Or you could just replace it with the proper 98 components. The code being present in the ECU should not affect how it runs, but the mechanical condition of the system certainly will.
