After installing new clutch, pedal feels very loose

After I installed the ACT new clutch, it seems very loose. I double checked to make sure the hydraulic system was working properly. More specifically when I press on the pedal, it feels like zero pressure at first and then it starts to stiffen up, but definately much different then what I was used to. So far the clutch has zero miles on it, due to other complications.

Perhaps bleeding the hydraulic system would help?

Yes I forgot to mention that I was going to try that. I do not understand why it got so bad so suddenly though. I checked the slave resevoir and yes indeed it was a tad bit dirty. The release plunger is snug against the release fork. I dont get it, I didnt expose the line to air, so I'm really wondering why the hydraulic system acted like this.
