Has anyone rewired their steering controls to a aftermarket radio?

Now I heard of some people on the board that gots the 2k2s, orders some part from crutchfield that allowed them to still use the radio controls with their aftermarket radio, but someone complained that it stopped the functionality of the trip meter.

But what I want to know is how the hell does this adapter work with aftermarket units? Is it just tailed for ONE brand or any aftermarket unit?

I'll find out today

i've been waiting over a month for a center channel speaker and it is finally in, along with my steering wheel controls adapter (PAC SWI-X)--the trip computer is not going to work but at least i'll have control of the stereo--i have an appointment today at 4 to get it installed, i will post whether or not this thing actually works on my 2k2 so people will know for sure; and then maybe someone could put it in FAQ so the topic can be laid to rest
lates,
matt

Our interface does not stop the function of the trip meter. It does not however make it continue to work either when you replace the stock stereo with an aftermarket one. When we get more info we can determain if we can make a module that will retain the trip computer button on the steering wheel.

I've done it

I have a pioneer aftermarket face and bought the adapter from a local boomer mccloud dealer for $90. They also installed it. It works great and I haven't noticed any problems at all.
I don't know all the logistics of how to do it... but it can be done.

The kit might be like any other kit works on radios - Maxima conversion to (enter bran here jenson, kenwood etc.) Thats the way I have seen them set up before.

Oh yeah one other thing, this can be a pain though because of taking arpart the steering wheel and other fitment issues. I haev not done it on a max though but that was part of the problem on an Audi. Just a heads up before jumping in. It can be done though.
