MbQuart Speaker Sensitivity Vs Head Unit Power
I'm looking at upgrading the stock fronts in my 2k2 which don't even come close to good sound. I'm looking into a pair of MbQuart Discus 6 1/2 components in the front, but they are power hogs. Their sensitivity is around 85. Is there any chance I can power them with the non-bose stock 2k2 head unit? If not, How tough is it to add an amp setup to this head unit?
Two more questions-
Any good references showing how to do this?
Any trustworthy websites for buying speakers?
Many Thanks

Most aftermarket speakers will sound better than factory. Since there are no pre-amp outputs on the radio, you will have to find an amp that uses speaker level inputs. You may be happy enough with the speakers alone to not go any further. But like others, you will most likely want some more low end. Putting an amp the front speakers is not difficult to do, just a pain to run the wires. If that is all you are going to do, maybe you can hide the small amp up somewhere under the dash or under the passenger seat where it can stay cool.
You can buy an interface at linkmeup.com that will give you RCA front and rear 0utputs along with gain adjustments while retaining your fade capabilities with the stock head unit. It also gives you the other leads/connections you need to install an amp/Xover, etc.
I used it to install a sub/Xover/amp (All for subs only...for now). I installed the MB Quart Reference series up front with no mods other that installing the tweeter on the door, rather that running new wire from the new MB crossover through the door and to the stock tweeter location. I ran the MB's off the stock power from the head unit..No Mods necessary. It sounds great!
Good luck.
