Wider tires/rims

What is the largest tire size one could safely put on a 5th gen? For example, drag tires?

Thanks in advance.

tires

You should only put as wide a tire as you need to stop wheel spin. Past that they will slow you down. (but are better for handeling)

Some max's went to narrower tires and had better 1/4 mile times.

Depending on the offset of the rim, you could have as tires as wide as you wanted, but they would stick out past the wheel well.

245 are as wide as I've seen on this board. I would not increase diameter at all.

I'm still waiting on my 2k2 6 speed to arrive, but one of the first things I was going to do was put Blizzaks on the stock wheels and buy another set of wheels and tires for warm weather. The tire size I had decided on was 245/40-18, on 18x8 wheels, since that setup had the least error with regards to the speedo, and I figured the width would provide super handling. However, if you're getting rubbing, even if rarely, I might have to rethink. The roads really suck around here and there are lots of dips, both intentional and unintentional. I'll be doing quite a bit of family hauling on the weekends, even though it'll just be me during weekdays. Maybe I'll just go to 235/50-17 on 17x7.5 wheels instead.

Awesome looking set-up.

So I gotta ask, where do they rub? Front? Rear? Inside? Outside?

And what is the offset on the Evo's. At one point I was considering the MM 11-2 (18x8@245/40) but have had second thoughs since they come in either 35mm or 45mm offset. Seems to me the 35's might cause problems with the outer fender lips, and the 45's might cause a problem with the inside front at the strut tower.

Basically what I want to do with the wide tires is get like 15" ultralight weight rims, they are not going to be cosmetic, just for drag racing. I was basically wondering how wide of a tire should I go for drag racing. It sounds like 255's would be the best, it will be put on a 15x9 wheel, if that is even a available size, I haven't even looked yet, just gathering info first. The stocker 17's will still be on the back. I want to get into some bracket racing next season.

I don't know much about drag tires...but i don't think they go by the same size rating (mm) i think they go by somthing else...anyway If you gonna do that why not do 13x9 with a wide *** tire. It's also gonna depend on how much power you put down at some point to wide is to much and too narrow is to narrow.

Don't sweat rubbing with a 245 at all. It will only do it when you fully fully fully compresse the suspension.
