Can a Power Steering Pump be Re-built?

Is it just a matter of seals? My pump I suspect is making a motoring sound when I turn the steering wheel hard left for right.

I can't remember, was this sound always there? Or a sign of a dying pump?

what the hell is a "motoring" sound???

Yes it can be rebuilt, but imo, you might as well replace it with a new unit due to labor issues.

Have you ever done any hose replacement or other p/s system work prior to this noise?

i guess he means it's making a whine characteristic of an electric motor. kindof like mine does.... been whining for 2 years.

courtesy charges $375.... is that what you'd pay? or buy one from idiotzone? carquest? somewhere else?

Thanks guys - greeny I haven't done any other work on it. Caped, that's the noise i'm talking about - it's a whining kind of noise. I thought it was coming out of the audio system at first...like some feedback - but it's not. Maval makes refurbs, i'll check it out. Courtesy has everything I notice - but their prices are steep...but that's what you get I guess if you want ORIGINAL OEM.

I need to pinpoint the source of a leak too - that I suspect is coming from the PS Pump area. I'm pretty sure it's soaking the Adjustment screw for the Idler pulley dedicated to the PS Pump belt. I'll get a better look, and maybe take a photo and you guys could assist and tell me the probable leak.
