For those that did the HID conversion into the Fogs of the I35, where did you drill the 1" hole to fit the wires etc through? I can't go through the dust cap because that is where the connection are for the stock portion and I don't know if its better to go through the side or the bottom?

Anyone who has done this, please shed some light. Thank you

 

I used the stock hole as a pilot hole and just made it big enough to use the 1 inch grommet for the HID harness. A step bit was definitely easier than a paddle bit. I figured if I ever wanted to go back to stock I could just hit up a junkyard and get new dust caps with the plug.

 

yeah, but the stock plug is on the back of the dust cover, how did you get around that?


side note, any idea what type of bulb goes next to the fogs (the one that turns on when you turn on your turn signal?) Thanks

 

Hmmm, I'll take a look a t my A32 dust caps. Maybe theyre the same and you could use those.

 

You need H3x aka H3 mini bulbs, which look like the halogen regular H3s.

 

^ The bulbs fit, it is the wiring harness to the Ballasts that I am have difficulty with.....if yours don't have a ballast they aren't HID's.

i just cut into the cover of the dust cap with a saw and hid the cables under the rubber seal and it seems pretty tight. I will take a picture once i'm back in town.

i made a hole under, and then ran the wires and used some kind of clay looking filler stuff to seal it up. and i took them off the other to ship the bulbs off to get replacements. man i love geting under there to take the fogs off.

 

you can just cut and resolder the wires to the hid bulb. i didn't use the grommet, just drilled a small hole ran the wire through and sealed with a little rtv. Makes it a little easier to go back to stock and I was able to use the stock wiring for the switch to the relay. Had it in for 6 months works great. I'll post some pictures up.

Well here are some pics of my install, it's pretty clean and it makes it really easy to go back to stock.

Took off the front bumper and all lights. You can just remove the under carriage covers and get to the same areas, I took everything off to polish my lights.

Left side. Lots of open space under the bumper, you can put both ballasts over here and just extend the wires.

I drilled 2 small holes on the side of the cap away from the contacts. I cut and soldered the wires through these holes and also ran the wiring for the switch off the old connections to the relay. The wires were tight in the hole, but I put on a little rtv just to make sure.

Polished Lights. For those interested I polished with 800, 1000, and then 2000 grit wet sand followed by 3 rounds of meguiar's plastic x. Got rid of all the yellow and came out like new.

This doesn't answer my questiuon, thats why I read it first and then still made this thread....

I ended up just drilling a hole on the top of the light and using RTV to seal it properly...I will ppost pics later as it looks sweet with the 8k fogs, 8k Headlights and LED clear side markers....
