That Black Sealant Crap Around Our Tail Lights?
That Black Sealant Crap Around Our Tail Lights?
Ya know that black sticky stuff that seals our tail lights to the rear body panel? You know, the stuff that makes it so we have to pry our lights away from the mounting surface?
The FSM calls it "butyl sealer".
Got any idea where to get some?
The dealer says they ain't got it.
Can find anything... based on my means of searching anyway... at any local parts stores.

I went to get the same rubber butyl sealant and got crap too.
Then I brought a picture of it in.... and they didn't have it... but were able to look up a different model number (same stuff but listed under different numbers for specific cars)

+1 It's MUCH easier to deal with than that butyl crap.
Try getting that butyl crap out of the carpet....it's damn near impossible.
Also, if/when you ever need to open up whatever your'e sealing again, you can just peal the silicone off and redo it, whereas the butyl stuff kinda just stays there and makes a mess.

Is this stuff absolutely neccessary for a proper fit when replacing tails? I'm replacing my tails on my 95 with red/clears I bought so I need to know if I have to grab some of this stuff.. I had though it would've been a simple plug n play job like replacing bumper lights or corners. =( till I saw the FSM.
the "non-hardening black silicone" any recommended brands appropriate for this use?
(sorry to bring up older thread)
