Overlays trouble
Overlays trouble
Has anyone put on some Bluebatmobile taillight overlays on their 5th gen. I tried, but to no avail. The curves were just too hard. Just wondering if anyone had some good advice.
I got a solid sheet of red and cut out the reverses, but the install looks crap so I'm gonna take them off, I just snapped some pics while they were on.
I guess I could trade for some 00 tails that are red and just put on the red signal overlay.

stock are the 02 clear ones.
I had a guy paint the altima ones a few years back, but I lost his contact info.

(1) The lights will have to be off the car
(2) Stick the overlays on top of the computer for about 2 hours before you use them; this will warm the vinyl up and make it far easier to work with
(3) Start in the middle, working out to the edges

Incorrect.. You do not need to take the lights off whatsoever to get a good install period.
As others said.. work from the center out. The trick is get a spray bottle filled soapy water and have the taillight wet the entire time you are applying the vinyl.. and once you get the alignment the way you want push all of the water/bubbles out.
As for the difficulty it is definately hard... took me about a hour each side to get it all "worked" out.
If you searched more than once you would have found http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generation-maxima-2000-2003/343237-blue-batmobile-overlay-kits-6.html#post6536889

Like you said just trade for some all red ones if thats the look youre going for. Then overlay the signal.
I had the all red ones but didnt like the way they looked so I sprayed some black on then and overlayed the turn signal.
Before and after:

I still have the 02 03 tails that Ill open up to paint the inside.

From the pictures they look great! Mind if I add them to my Gallery? Heat from a hairdyer and some patience is the key to a good install. I personally dont take the tails off when applying my taillight Overlays, but some people find it easier that way. Its all about personal preference

Sure you can use them, and yes, from there they look good but up close its pretty bad.
Yes, I researched all the methods and tips. Used a squeegie, card, hair drier, spray bottle of soapy water, and plenty of time. I just could not get the bends. Up close, they do look bad.

, and you can obviously take the lights off to do the job.. but imo it wouldn't make it any easier.
