Do you have a SES light?

If not just do as others suggested and use the search button, Or take it to your mechanic

My car just started doing the same thing yesterday off 1st gear. It feels like something might be clogged. Everytime I get on the gas the rpm will jump up but dosen't feel like its accelerating, then when it switch gears i feel a little tiny jerk. I guess sluggish sounds right. My light is on so i will need to take it to a shop Monday. I drive a 2001 i30.
So I searched TCM and I've got people saying change the Transmission control module and get a VB recalibration. My question is.. is this a common thing for our 5 gens?

newbs...its a common problem...so common that there is a TSB...you will probably have to replace the TCM (transmission control module)

Ok call me a newb if you want but u really hype. This isn't my thread first of all so chill. I was relating to him that he's not the only one with the same problem. If you really want to start flamin we all can get it but honestly its not worth my time. You told him to serach what TCM means and I tried to help him look it up by helpin him out and thats what I found. Anyway anyone know how much that will cost?

ok i replaced the tcm and the car is doing the same thing (the replacement tcm was from another 2001 maxima) but ive noticed that it only does the sluggishness when the car is cold then when it warms up it acts normal.I also noticed that my tranny fluid is dirty

So is it a special tcm i need or could the dirty tranny fluid cause this problem?

if it never worked, I had a Vehical Speed Sensor issue. It wouldn't know when i was giving it gas for a sec, and then bam, it started to accellerate.
Dunno if it is your problem, but ya never know. Check for codes.......

Replacing the TCM was not wise. A bad TCM would have thrown codes.

1. Check the grounds for corrosion. Start with the main engine ground and move to the battery ground.

2. Have fuel pressure tested. What type of gas do you use?

3. Scan ECU for history codes. You mentioned about a previous CAT code. Start with that.

4. Pull one of the plugs and check it. They may be worn.

What is the application anyways?

Don't just throw parts at it.

Use your brain and SEARCH

Trust me i have searched and no help only advice ive gotten was on the tcm so i changed it....i drove it to day and it just went crazy like it was in neutral and then when it gets to high revs it kicks in with a jerk.I had to drive home at 4k rpm does this mean the speed sensor is completely shot or the tranny is dead.

Tranny sounds shot or electrical problem. Best thing to do is drive it in that condition. Have someone with live data scan tool take a look at sensor funtion.

Before you rip out anything else, check for codes! latent or otherwise...

At least it will lead you in the right direction...

Does your O/D light flash on startup? You might have a code...

Look for codes. I just pulled a p0755 on mine (my car was doing the same thing as yours), bad shift solinoid B. It stayed in 3rd gear and then sometimes(after cutting the car off, kinda resetting it) it would run like a champ well except for a little jerk when changing gears. I have ran it at 4k rpms during that time, but not very long I didn't want to risk blowing a head gasket (trip home 1hr-to long at 4k). Its at the shop now getting the solinoids replaced should be done today. All in all $275 and I will have my car back.

BUT Check codes its essential if you have an SES light on!!!!!!!! Transmission shop checked mine for free, as well as autozone, advance, etc.

FWIW you could run it far longer and harder than that, and not blow a HG.
