Driver's side fog light gets moody

I recently put a new h3 3000 kit in my fogs (03 max). My boy actually installed it for me. Anyway...after the install it turned out that only the driver's side fog would come on, not the passenger side. So after 2 hours of diagnostics we ended up re-doing the ground wiring for BOTH fogs. Finally...it worked.

But now occasionally the DRIVER'S side has times when it comes on and times when it doesnt.

- Sometimes when I turn on the fogs the passenger side turns on 1 second before th driver's side.

- Other times the driver's side fog just doesnt turn on. To get it to turn on I have to keep switching the fog lights on and off and then it will come on. When it turns on it stays on. Sometimes it comes on just fine.

Does this seem like a ballast problem? Fuse problem? thanks in advance

I have the same problem with my headlights tho, not the fogs. my headlights have an HID. it turns out that the problem is from the ballast.

if you find that the ballast problem doesnt work.......check the ground wiring AGAIN, also

check out the relay on the actual wiring harness.....you may have a relay for EACH side, but usually it should be one RELAY for both sides...if you find two relays, try swapping them to see

Wiggle the wires while the fogs are on.

Buy relay wiring harness to pull power direct from battery, end thread. (such as eBay or ddmtuning.com) People need to realize that HID ballasts pull 3-4x more power than a halogen bulb and our skimpy 22amp wiring will work....for a while. Do it safe and do it right and buy the add'l relay harness.

Uh... a 35W HID uses the same amount of power as a 35W Halogen bulb.

Not when the ballasts are firing to ignite the HID bulb....

x2

A lot of the newer HID kits actually comes with harness that pulls power directly from the battery, and uses the OEM headlight circuit to trigger the relay only.

The stock wiring just isn't enough for the initial current draw to ignite the bulbs.

Unless he's already using power directly from the battery (which the OP didn't state), then it's most likely the ballast (just switch the two sides and you can find out).

Thats how i rigged up my H3 fogs....i use "ONE" of my OEM adapters for a on/off switch, then the relay pulls the added electricity from the battery

its weird...it turns on most of the time and sometimes the passenger fog turns on half a second earlier than the driver's side...the driver's side seems to be delayed sometimes. But sometimes it turns on just fine, just as fast.

I'll put a new ballast in and see whats up and report back. thanks for everyone's help!!
