Oil Pan Replacement

I noticed that my oil pan is leaking and it is corroded and well, just not in good shape. Anyone have any ideas how tough this is to do or how much it should cost ballpark? Let it be known I have little to no knowledge/experience working on cars.

I did mine about 2 months ago. The oil pan was $80.00 from the dealership and you need to buy RTV sealant with I got from AutoZone for $4.00. I took some pics of this with my cell phone when I did it back then. I'll see if I still have them and post. Here is what you need to do. Drain Oil. Afterwards there are 10 screws (10mm) holding the oil pan in place. Once you take those out you will need a large pliers or vise grip to grab the end of the oil pan and apply force to pry it off. Clean all excess old RTV sealant and dry everything with a clean cloth. Apply new RTV sealant around top perimeter of new oil pan and install within 30minutes. It's not a hard job for someone with little experience. Good luck.

I would say use a putty knife to take the pan off. I would use ultra grey rtv and give it a good cure time 24hrs before adding oil.

DaveB sells them for around $60. If your pan is rusty then chances are the 10mm bolts are pretty rusty. You might have a hard time getting them off because they strip easily.

This post is a little old. I resurrected because my 2003 lower oil pan is terribly rusty. It looks as if it will rust through soon. This seems very unusual to me. Anyone know if there is a TSB on this? I've got 15+ year old cars with oil pans that are fine.

My oil pan on my 2K is pretty good shape, but there is some rust that I will treat. Many recommend POR15 for rust trtmnt, and for $25 or so I got a small kit that will work on my oil pan and other areas as well and is cheaper than replacing the pan. I hope it works ok. Try it, give it a whirl. Seems quite easy to use, especially on an underbody part that looks is not an issue.

oil pan rust through

I had an oil leak around 70k, when my 02 was about 5 years old. It turned out that the oil pan was completely rusting through. It wasn't a terribly expensive fix, but yeah I was surprised to have that happen on such a new car.

I'm in Wisconsin, and my car was previously titled in MI. The previous owner was Nissan Technical/Research Center... I'm not sure if I have a previous lease vehicle or if it might have been a company car for someone at Nissan.

dude, this thread is more than a year old, but to be on topic, it is a very easy fix as was described in detail in post # 2
