155k...time for a new clutch but which one

My 97 SE 5spd has 155k and am noticing a burning smell when I park it. Just had new belts and new radiator hoses installed so don't think they are the problem. I've had the car from 49k to now. Anyway, I remember discussion earlier (tried to search them but no luck) regarding replacing the oem clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing using the 5th gen parts as these seem to be a bit better. Anybody have any info on this? Point me in the right direction? Especially part numbers as I plan to have this done at the Nissan dealer. Thanks in advance. Cheers

Are you having any sort of problems with the clutch? Slipping, etc?

If not, why do you assume it's the clutch? Seems like a hell of an assumption.

You didn't search, did you?

FWIW the Nissan dealer is going to rape you on price for a clutch install. Why not just go to a regular repair shop?

i agree with pmohr. buy the clutch yourself and take the car to a local shop. when i was looking around for some1 to do mine, i was quoted $300 parts and labor...but i went ahead and did it myself.

i recommended a exedy OEM replacement

How long will my clutch last since it just started to slip in 3 - 5 gear under 80% - WOT? I only have a K&N air filter and do 75% city driving. I don't plan on beating it in this condition.

So a 2000 - 01 stock maxima clutch will be more than enough if I plan on adding y pipe and exhaust while still beating on it once in a while?

Thanks!

Yeap, 5th gen clutch should be more than enough for an All-Motor setup.

I had the same burning smell from my car didn't think it was the clutch but a few days later it started slipping under normal driving. I just had an OEM exedy put in. $146 shipped. I thought about the exedy stage 1 but now that I drove the OEM exedy the stage 1 would have been over kill. The pedal is effortless now with the exedy and it holds strong also.

I'm in a pickle- soon i'm going to college and looking for random excuses to tell my parents i need a new clutch/ flywheel. i dont know exactly the clutch yet, but i was wondering, with an intake, y pipe, and axle-back, would a 5th gen clutch matched with a fidanza flywheel work out pretty well? i'm all about the 2nd gear chirps. I'm also wondering how much one would cost and install.. thanks.

Chirpin 2nd is really that bad for the diff? i guess i wouldnt know why but how else would you shift without spinnin the wheels a bit when shifting? that scares me because i did that a fair amount.. how does the differential have anything to do with hard shifting?

You would wait until the RPM's fall from wherever you shifted at to where they're supposed to be in the next gear, then let the clutch out normally, that's how you drive a manual...

When you chirp second you're shocking everything in the trans. If the tires didn't give (spin), then the clutch would, and if the clutch didn't, then you're just shocking the hell out of the trans internals.

That's not to say that you're going to completely blow up your trans if you do it from time to time, but don't go driving around town trying to chirp 2nd and 3rd every single time.
