auto tranny issue with downshifting?

I know the 4th Gen Maxima/I30 has a bad issue with the auto tranny not wanting to downshift causing the car to lug. Sometimes you have to almost floor it for the tranny downshift. Are there any tips or tricks to help this? I heard that a good grounding kit will help. Any other ideas?

In what situations are you having issues with it downshifting?

If your grounds (or any other electrical part) are dirty/making bad contact, then that could indeed cause some interesting electrical issues. Clean up the existing grounds first to see if that helps any.

The typical situation being similar to rolling thru a stop sign by not stopping. The car doesn't want to downshift unless you almost floor it. Its more noticeable if you are on a hill. Almost every auto maxima/I30 I've driven does it.

Are there any tips to have get rid of it?

The good old '3rd gear start'? Live with it, really. Without something like a SupraStick or a custom TCM reprogram, that behavior won't change.

Ah yes, the rolling stop 3rd gear take off.
It's simply how are trannys are programmed.

There is one v-e-r-y easy way to fix it.

STOP at the stop sign.

I know that takes some skill, but trust me it actually works.
The throttle response is awsome.
Cheapest mod you can do.

my dad is a mechanic for nissan and specializes with maxima's he says the is always a problem with the 4th gen maxima's ..they almost always never down shift until at a complete stop.

a way to fix this is blehmcos grounding kit which he claims is supposed to help with the downshifting

I kinda doubt a grounding kit will make the TCM downshift the car.

Unless it's a different kind of "grounding kit" that I've never heard of. Your car has to be old/rusty/dirty to have grounding problems, and most people who put one on don't seem to notice any difference.
