HDD Error?

Has anyone experienced intermittent HDD errors on their navigation systems? Every now and then, the navigation display will get stuck, then display "HDD malfunction." After a few minutes, it will re-appear normally. I am just wondering if anyone else saw this before. The owner's manual doesn't say anything about it in the troubleshooting section.

Thanks,
Daniel

If your cars under warranty take it into the dealership, sounds like the Hard drive that holds the navigation info is going bad.

Thanks. I will do that. I just drove it and it is working fine now. I will take it to them and have them check it out. The car is barely 5 months old, but it just started doing this a few weeks ago.

Guess that's a big no. I'm also curious how the Map software gets updated on this, since there is no DVD-ROM installed in the vehicle.

Can't say no. Can say "who knows". I don't think anyone has been brave enough to rip it all apart and find out yet.

That was my question to the dealer, but he gave me a foggy answer. I dont think dealers know how this will happen, but they may just found another avenue of making service visit money. Instead of getting a dvd you may be required to go to the dealer to get the maps updated. My guess is, they could use Compact Flash slot to upgrade the map. The million dollar question is, will we as owners be able to upgrade maps on their own.

As to original thread topic, as a person who has quiet a bit of PC hardware experience, get your hard drive replaced under warranty asap. Once there are errors on the disk, they will only get worse. Oh yeah, I did not have any errors on my Max (knock on wood)
Good luck,
Max
