Anyone take the plunge and put a Clearbra on their Maxima? I'm thinking about doing this once I get my ride.

Yeah Probably this spring gonn make the jump. THe only bad thing is there is only 1 place that is "authorized" to do it around me, so the cost is going to be ~670 I think i was quoted. Might be a little less but its close. I had it done on my FX and it was totally worth it. The only bad thing was trying to keep it from getting the "faded" look so it wasnt so visable.

 

Clear Bra? Is that the same as rock guard film? We took it off the black 2K2 (easier to polish and paint the chips than deal with the film), but decided to do the fenders, hood, trunk lip and mirrors of the '09 white max. The new 3M stuff is more clear than the '02 stuff, but it is thicker so you may notice the edge more. On a white car it's not that bad. Wouldn't you know - the black '02 had a very light, almost white primer that showed every chip. The '09 white has a very dark grey primer - can't win.

 

I had it installed on my 05, which I am still driving. Will do it again on my 09 when I get it. One tip I found somewhere to deal with wax build-up along the edge:

When applying sealant or wax, I will cover the edge with narrow(1/4"?)painter's tape to keep the material from piling up against the edge. Then remove the tape before buffing.

 

I have already looked into pricing so when I get mine I'll be ready to go. The stone chipping in So. Cal is nuts so this is an absolute must if you want to keep youe Max looking good.

 

I would highly recommend it. I've had it on my G since 12/06 and it still looks great. Believe it or not, the place that needs it the most is the door handle cups behind the handle. The key to a quality job is in the skill of the installer.

got it on mine and you cant even tell thats its there you have to look very close worth every $$$ we have alot of gravel on the roads in the winter

I had my car done by Envisage Design Labs in Southern CA. The clear bra took two guys about 4 hours to install. The job includes bumper, hood, fenders, lights and door handle cups. Cost for clear bra installed was $625 three years ago. Pattern was by XPEL, material by 3M. Envisage used a plotter to cut the bra out of a bulk roll of 3M material. The hood is actually almost half covered with film.

I watched them from beginning to end and knew there was no way I could have done this. For those of you thinking about buying the kit and doing it yourself, keep in mind you take a chance of messing it up. My installers got it on the first try, but they could always cut out a new one as needed.

Terrycs is right, you should not try this yourself. You should really let the installer do it and hope you picked a good one because a great installer will make it nearly impossible to spot the parting line.
