Washing Car? yourself or professionally?

Do you guys detail your cars yourself or have a professional detailer do it?

Both.... hehehe

Yeah, I'm a parttime lot-*****/detailer at a GM dealer, so I have a wonderful little area to clean my car, with every cleaner/tool a detailer could ever need. Its great.

I don't think anybody can detail my car as good as I can. I've been doing auto detailing on the side since I was about 15 years old. Anybody in NJ wanna try me?

No one touches my car but me!

Wash it myself, even in the winter (wife thinks I'm nuts) and once a month use Zaino to keep the finish perfect.

I've always cleaned the car myself, I do occasionally go through car washes, especially when it's really cold or dark. But I don't like other people washing the car for me. 20$ or whatever it may cost them to wash the exterior, vacuum the interior and armor all my tires is not worth it. I take 3 hours to wash and wax my car but I'm very satisfied with the job after I'm done.

It's all about satisfaction

https://maxima.org/forums/5th-generation-maxima-2000-2003/79318-do-01-tail-lights-fit-02-what-about-nismo.html

I got some buddies at work whose logic is their time is worth over $50 per hour so why wash the car themselves?

But then again, what are they doing from 6 am to 9 am on a Sat. morning anyway besides sleeping with the wife? We've never gotten out to the course before 11 am ever.

Detailing

Not all Pro Detailers are illegal aliens. I am a professional detailer for Saab Cars A/G and boy let me tell you there are some people out there who have no clue how to care for a paint finish, never mind the whole car. For those of you with Red cars especially, make sure you wax that car every 3 months...Red paint fades real quick. IMHO Red paint is worse than black. Sure black gets fine scratches, but it still shines...red fades to nothing if not properly cared for. For example, this car:

I used to run my 95 through the car wash until the clearcoat started peeling off of the spoiler.

Nobody can say how clean a car should be or how short your lawn should be. We all have different standards.
The other issue is capabilities. Some of us have garages and some do not.
Let's not argue?

Spring, Summer, Early Fall: I wash it myself
Winter: I go to a decent hand wash. It's too darn cold in Chicago to wash my car outside.

I do my own except for like once a year when I get it detailed. They seem to just get a few places that I dont and it just gives the car a real nice feel for a bit. Also it is usually a gift so I obviously want to use it. But other than that it is DIY.

I get mine done

by Sky Wash in Alpharetta, GA. It get washed and all shined up at least twice a week. I would wash mine by hand but they are so fast and it looks great when it's done. When my younger brother is home from school on breaks he likes to wax it for me (thanks bro).

The car wash should not affect that too much...the only real reason that a car wash would cause that problem would be directly related to one of a couple of things...or a combination I guess.

1. Washing the car in a car wash during the winter time that uses high pressure heated water and not drying it after exit. I am assuming that your spoilers are plastic or fiberglass right?

2. An improper paint and sealing process used at the time of the vehicle being painted at the factory. I had a 1989 R2500 Suburban that had a delamination problem much like you are describing...only solution-repaint. The paint was defective from the manufacturer...this occured maybe 1987-1996 or so...depends...mainly in 1988-1992

3. Was the spoiler ever repainted since you owned it, and did you own it since new? Was the spoiler a Factory option (listed on sticker) or was it a dealer installed accessory?

The spoiler was a factory option, since it was a GXE. I bought the car used, but as far as I know, it looked like it was never repainted. The paint perfectly matched the rest of the car; burgundy.

I usually wash my car by hand, but on days where its just to cold to wash the car especially winter, i usally bring it to Turtle Wax or bring it to those coin car washes and do all the detailing in my garage waxing, tire glazing etc.
