why is the 1999 max 's engine different from the other 4 th geners?

there are many aftermarket parts that fits on 95-98 maxima but doesnt fit on the 99. and some of the 99 parts fit 2001? why is 99 and 01 fits the same parts and not 95-98?

2: i heard from some people that the 99 maximas are alot slower than the 95-98 . is that true? if true why?

A lot of little things were changed for the 1999 model year in anticipation of the 2K max. Thats why things like FSTBs, y-pipes, etc. don't all fit.

From my experience (I know 2 guys that have 99SE-Ls...one stick, one auto) they are NOT any slower than any other 4th gen....

The 99's share some things with the 2k's.

Slower? I dont know about that. I'm 99 (auto) and as of what I know, i have been running faster then most 95-98 autos.

I had read that for the 4th generation the '95 is the fastest of the group becasue each year after 1995 Nissan had to add more emmisions "stuff" to comply with more stricter emmsion standards which slow down the car.

Anyone else heard this?

Also what i've notice, the reverse indiglo guages dont fit the 99's. It's really annoying, and i really want one, does anyone know why they don't fit?

We're talking about stock vs. stock.

sascuderi I agree, but whatever you do DONT SAY SPEED EMISSIONS!! There are a couple member's here that'll get on your back for that one.

let's clear some things up....

The ENGINE in 99s is no different from 95-98s...

99 Maximas have more emissions restrictions, therefore some exhaust differences i think?
About other mods... the main differences i see is just things like gauges and stuff, they also had traction control standard?

Like NYCe MaXiMa said the increased emission's on the 1999 maxima's were the biggest difference from the 1997-98 maxima's.

Traction control is not standard. Its an option only on GLE and Automatic SE's.
