Fuel Level Guage Malfunction

I was driving home on the e-way and my fuel level guage went from 1/2 full to empty in under a minute. Then it went to 1/4 full. I pulled off the e-way and got some gas. Car only took a little over 6 gallons.

What gives? Is this a electrical or mechanical issue? I do not let the car get under 1/2 a tank so it never gets really low.

Thanks.

I had it happen to me once or twice, about a year or so ago?
no problems since (no, I did not do anything, it stopped before I could).

Either your floater was stuck for a second, the gauge is faulty or the sending unit needs a cleaning. Don't sweat it, if it keeps happening, it's an easy fix no matter what.
