I screwed up royally....I was down shifting to 4th gear (I was getting excited about roadkilling an exclipse)from fifth but I got a little jammed up and threw it to 2nd. Anyway I have this anoying ticking sound that might be a lifter and my exhaust sounds like its misfiring a bit. Any suggestions on what it might be and how to fix it?

The consequence of this mis-shift is that you exceeded the RPM redline. Perhaps your engine experienced valve float and one or more valves "kissed" a piston. Make a compression test to evaluate the condition of your engine.

oh man, one of my friends did that about 6 weeks ago and his car has been in the shop since then. he was racing a Z28 in his max and went from 3rd to 2nd accidently and he let off immediately and pulled into a gas station. after refueling, he started the car and there was a ticking noise and the exhaust smelled like gas. he drove it home and the next day, it wouldn't start. towed it to courtesy nissan and after 3 weeks, they said he spun a bearing connecting the piston to the crankshaft. after the car cooled down, the bearing seized up on the crankshaft keeping it from turning over when trying to start the car. so now he's waiting for the new engine to be installed.

I did that once in my Integra but not to that degree. The ticking is definately valves. Hopefully they just got out of whack and need a simple adjustment. Hopefully you didn't bend them.

The exhaust noise is probably being created by the valves.

Thanks for your ideas....

but now I need to know if this would be covered by the warrantee and/or how much this is going to hurt.

courtesy nissan wouldn't warranty my friend's max cuz they said it wasn't a manufacturing defect, meaning there wasn't anything wrong with the engine to cause that, and it was just a human mistake.

Dude -you must be stronger than I am.

I have tried to downshift at around 75+ into second and the car won't let me. Not sure how you managed it but OUCH! I kinda figured their might be some type of reline protection that kept things like this from happening but I guess not.

No. Nissan warrants against defects in material and workmanship. Driver error falls into neither category. This engine damage is no different from body damage you might do by running into a tree. You caused the damage, you pay to fix it. Sorry if this sounds harsh, but those are the facts of life.

... and how much this is going to hurt.
You haven't obtained a clear and specific damage assessment yet. Without knowing what repairs are necessary, it isn't possible to estimate the cost of those repairs.

i thought the max had a rev limiter...

i thought the max wouldnt let you shift into second at that speed....it locks you out of the gear..then again you may be superhuman and able to push yourself into that gear. oh wells, the name of the racing game $$$.
good luck and pray it just needs an adj.

I've done that a few times! Once, I was in 5th going about 90 and this Civic wanted some, so I threw it down into 2nd instead of 4th...I actually pegged my tach because I was already revving it for a quick launch in 4th...My VQ squealed and actually smelt burnt...I pulled onto the shoulder, sat there for a few seconds, and then went on my way. Luckily nothing had happened. Ever since that time, I make sure that I don't accidentally misshift.

Take off all your mods, get a nice haircut, and

go to your dealer, and say you have no idea how it happened. And don't post on the BBS about it until the dealer fixes it - for free, and then tell us all about it!

Good luck!
