TORQUE CONVERTOR/ tranny REMOVAL

Does the 4 Torque Convertor screws needs to be removed in order to remove the auto transmission? Can the screws be reached once the starter is removed and I know I have to turn the crank bolt to rotate the screws to the opening. Any suggestions from pass experiences on removing the tranny?? Thanks in advance. I read the link on car domain! Confused me a little.

there is a half-moon plate that will come off after you remove the bottom 6 or so tranny bolts (all the ones that go from the engine into the tranny) and once that plate falls down you can get to the TC bolts from there. don't have your face under the plate in case it slides out by itself after you remove the last bolt holding it on.

Ummm.. if you are not careful the falling plate may act as a guillotine (french for "head chopper") and gouge your cranium...?

There are permanently attached bolts sticking out from the tranny housing that the plate hangs on. These bolts had nuts on them, holding the 2-3 backets in place over top of the cover. I can't slide the plate past these bolts. I think the plate won't come off unless i remove the lengthways cross member, and the oil pan. They both seem to be in the way of the tranny removal. I'm trying to do this exact job right now, and this is the point I am at. Can anyone confirm the cross member and oil pan also have to be removed?

No it does not have to be removed. Read the other tranny thread today - I explained.
