Bullydog Feedback!! Got questions???

All I can say so far is that I haven't had a chance to run her on the highway/WOT or the Track (preferred and will do so in the future) but thus far I can say that it does feel a lot stronger from standing start.

I will eventually take her to the track as soon as I get time to buy and add on my Intake (Stillen coming soon for me ) and then add my UDP and see what she does.

Got any questions then let er rip, I'll fly her out on an open hwy when I get off work....

Get some before and after dyno numbers instead.

Don't forget your warranty could be jeapordized if you are doing 130 or redlining your baby before proper breakin. And the onboard computer knows everything from how many bisquits you gave your dog last Thursday to how many sheets of what brand and what ply tissue you used on your last 'pit' stop. Nissan refers to the onboard computer as 'Swami', and Swami knows all.

Actually that's not really the case. The most advanced data logger Nissan has is in the R35 GT-R, and that only has a 36 hour 'black box'.

Every other vehicle, including the Maxima, has far less stored information on your actions, especially beyond a day or two.

From what I understand it is nearly impossible to gauge how much HP these mods add to our car (could be wrong though), I'll try but it'll be later down the road.

To: Light, the great thing about this Bullydog is that I can go back to factory stock settings whenever I want and then go back again to sport/premium settings.

So my warranty won't be in jeopardy in any form or fashion.

I'm trying to get my car with as much aftermarket stuff from Stillen as possible, hopefully I'll have enough cheeze to get there.

I found a link for this product....but I thought that the 2009 Nissan Maxima could not be tested on a Dyno as per Stillen indications. So how would we know if we are actually getting the claimed power that this device is advertising? I want to hear more info from actual users who have decided to buy this programmer. I used to have a Dodge Ram HEMI and had a programmer and it defintely changed the characteristics of my truck.

So anyone REALLY know if this works or not???????

Well Fellaz,
Thus far I have great hope for the Bulldog, my car pulls hard and it doesn't flatten out after 100mph. I hit the Rev at 7100 and my top end is now 176mph (not that I've gone that fast and never will).

The factory tires cannot handle the power being put down so I'm definitely going to have to buy a more aggressive tire. Eventually, I will get a set of 20's (not going bigger than that) with a nice set of low profile tires with a buttload of grip.

I love the flexibility of this car and as I stated earlier that I can go back to stock whenever I want.

How much of the torque management seems to be eliminated at low speeds? With that much power and 5.17 final gearing, it should spin the tires at WOT below 30 mph and these don't do that. With VDC off, mine will scratch a patch on takeoff but only a few feet..

Does raising the rev limiter that high even benefit these motors?

When does peak HP drop off on these cars?

Not sure because there's really no real way to gauge the HP added on a dyno (well from at least what I understand).

Hmm... Perhaps time will tell when further testing takes place.

There's no reason to further stress the motor by ringing it that high if it stops making power soon before that...

I'm new to the Maxima game, but are these handheld tuners commonly successful with these cars? (Prior years for instance)

Stops making power before what? The car in stock mode pulls well to 100 but most ppl have reported at some point that the car just seems to flatten out from that point onto 120 or so.

As far as I know from when I was constantly on 5.5gen Forum most had decent results using Chips especially when they were incorporated with such other Mods like:
CAI/WAI
Exhaust system whether Full Catback or just B-pipe and Muffler
Smaller/Lightweight UDP

Then tend to work better with Turbo-charged or SC/Nitrous cars.

The point I was trying to make was... if the 2009 3.5L peaks power @ 6200 RPM (For example), there's no point in shifting it anywhere over say 6400 RPM as power begins to fall off. Wasting all that time reving past that will surely decrease ET/Performance by not keeping the motor in it's powerband...not to mention cause additional unecessary stress.

In a nutshell, we need to know where the motor's peak power lies and THEN we'll be able to adjust our shift points accordingly. Either that or compose some decent track testing by varying shift points.

Until then, I wouldn't raise it at all IMHO.

Actually, if you're doing 1/4 mile/heads-up racing and using the CVT in Manual Mode then there is a benefit because you can stay in a certain gear longer before you have to shift which should give you better times or at least allow you to get ahead of someone who has a car with similar gearing/hp/tq from a standing start.

The Bullydog can actually be used on damn near any Nissan but just make sure you check with the Techs and see if your application/YR-Model is ok.

When you plug it into the Brain of the car it only asks if this is a Nissan and if the car you're about to change the settings on is your car.

So far I've raised my Rev Limiter to 7200 and my Top Speed to 176mph (not that i will go anywhere near there but it's nice to have instead of the crappy 130 or so that is stock).

You clearly have no idea what you're talking about...

Manual, automatic... doesn't matter when you're talking about powerbands. Why do you think people buy/use different gear sets? To get and stay in a certain powerband.

Rather than argue with someone that doesn' understand the concept of powerband efficiency, I'll simply wait to see how others do with this.

Who's arguing? Everyone here is just trying to understand the entire point of setting up on this Mod in the first place, there's no need to come to the forum "flaming" ppl just because you have more knowledge on a certain subject.

I understand your statements but i think you're getting way too personal and upset over nothing, we're all here to help one another, not hurl insults or try to devalue one another.

If you are going to do anything at all then try to help everyone to understand you, otherwise there's no need for your flaming on this forum.

I'm not flaming, it just best not to put data on a forum without being informative (Correct).

I may be biting the bullet and jumping on this programmer to do some baseline, after track testing in the next month or so.

I'll keep you guys posted.

No hard feelings,

are positive on that, cause the new 09's may have a different protocol then the 5.5 gen's so in that case it may not work with the 02-03 VQ35's plus Bully dog only has it listed for like 05-09 Models.

Why don't you just put it into manual mode to dyno it? i'm sure one of the virtual gears is close to 1:1....

I'm sure they're different. Go to the Bullydog website and search their products for your vehicle. It looks like they have almost every gen covered.

I have wondered about that also. The explanation was that it may not select the same virtual gear since it has almost limitless options. ....4th might be .97 one run and 1.02 the next. Now, I have no idea if that's BS or not.

The computer's ability to compensate for any larger changes in a/f and timing may be the real reason. Although if a person reset the computer each time before the learning takes place, maybe a gain could be realized. Just thinking out loud here. I have heard that the computer will eventually override a "piggy-back" unit. Is the BullyDog one of these? I have lost interest in it due to the torque management of the CVT and TPS which BullyDog has stated it does not choose to change on V6 Nissans. The big HP/Torque gains advertised are on a V8 truck where the BullyDog eliminates the TPS problem and maybe some other parameters below 3800RPM.

No they don't have every gen covered, I just looked on their website, it says 05-09 Nissan's doesn't say anything about all Nissan's.

Good luck,

Do you have a UDP? I'm only asking because I have one and sometimes it gets kinda hard to tell if one Mod is working or the other.

I notice that when you add an intake you get that Buttdyno feel that you've really added so much more HP/TQ because you can hear it and it tends to psychologically effect the way you feel as well.

Let me know and oh, I just noticed I did a typo and put 7200 for my Rev Limiter when it should say 7100. I'll edit.

Let us know what you think when you get it.

Will do!

I have Stillen's UGP just waiting in my room, but I'm holding off on buying an intake until something good comes out and sitting tight for Corsa's catback this Summer.

I'm going to install each mod one at a time to best judge their gains. Like you said, it's tough to gauge with multiple mods being installed at once.

I'm mainly looking for a little power to offset my 22s that are going on next week. They're lightweight at only 3 lbs heavier than stock each, but that's a lot to make up due to rotating mass.

I just hope this Bullydog delivers what it claims.

Cool. Yeah, I hear you regarding rotational mass, that's one of the main reasons when I do get my 20's that I'm still going use my stock 18's for the track then change back once I finished on the track.

What kind of rims are you getting?

I received my Power Pup yesterday and downloaded the latest update for the Maximas.

I'll be installing it tonight to see what it can do on a 100% stock platform.

Stay tuned!

Okay guys, I had a few issues installing my Power Pup the first three times until the fourth try last night. I was like, "Yes!!!"

The stupid unit kept freezing up on me at the "Downloading screen" and didn't install the first three times. Then, for some reason, it finally worked the fourth time???

Regardless and on to the good stuff...

I chose the Premium tune, of course, and left everything else alone (Rev limiter and speed limiter)

At first I didn't notice much of anything. I cruised around getting on it here and there and I must say that I wasn't impressed.

Until... I went out with my guys late last night and jumped on it from 50mph to pass a car and... DAMN!!! We were all shocked at how hard the car started pulling. Keep in mind I had over 400lbs of additional passengers in the car too!!! Very impressive.

I don't know if it takes a little time for the new tune to set in or what, but I can tell you that there is a considerable amount of extra torque and the powerband has definitely been increased.

It's not insane or anything, but I'd say it's worth about 10-15 WHP or about a tenth or two off of ET.

Either way, I got a deal on it and am happy I bought it.

This is also on a 100% stock vehicle with heavy 22s guys. Once I get my UDP, Corsa catback, and Fujita intake installed later this summer, I'm sure this tune will accent them very well.

If anyone has any questions, let em rip!

Alpha

hmmm. I'm still going to hold off a little longer untill I hear some more about this. The car pulls good as it is from 50mph and on, its the damm lag it has under 50mph I'd love to get rid of. I want to feel that power from the moment it takes off, but I guess more power on the expressway is good as well. I've seen it on ebay for pretty cheap, and since its a buy it now you can also get some cashback from microsoft plus another 2% off now I think ebay is offering. I'll think about it for a little longer. Thanx for the feedback on this unit. Very much appreciated.

I've seen it on ebay for pretty cheap, and since its a buy it now you can also get some cashback from microsoft plus another 2% off now I think ebay is offering. I'll think about it for a little longer. Thanx for the feedback on this unit. Very much appreciated.
Sure thing. The only way you'll reduce the lag with these CVTs is with more power, less weight, or a combination of the two.

These 3.5Ls really don't shine until 5,000 rpms so the quicker you get there, the better.

The Bullydog helps with this by adding more power across the board. I'm really looking forward to seeing how much of an impact the UDP makes on this.
