Hey guys been gone for a while...just don't have time for message boards now a days. I have had a good friend of mine's Maxima for a while (way to long) to paint and I finally got around to getting it painted for him.

The color is Nissan Silverstone. I really like how it turned out (I know Randy will like the color).

Well on with the pics...the lighting wasnt the best for pics of this color but I wanted to snap some before David left with it.

David brought the spoiler light with him (missing in the pic) and we will put it on tomorrow.

 

very nice. Do you have any idea how much those body kits run? Or even just the front lip? im really just lookin for a front lip

Dont know...I bought it years ago and cant even remember what I paid (maybe $500 back then). Best bet is to go to Stillen's site and look, check the forum classifieds, or google.


He has a set of factory Nissan 5 spokes he will put on when he gets back to FL.

dude that's friggin awesome. i thought you were 'done with 3rd Gens' back when you did that black one in 07 or 08 haha. any engine bay shots on this one?

I am done...this is not my car but a friends that I painted for him. When I said I was done I meant owning any more. This car has been in the works for a long time. I actually had it at my house when I had the last black Maxima I painted and sold. I didn't do anything to the engine bay on this one. Just stock.

The only thing I didn't paint was the underside of the hood and engine bay because I didn't want to fool with that but since its black its not a big deal.

Looks great. I really like the color. Is it the same as the G35/FX35?

My FX looks similar, but it's hard to tell depending on lighting.

I believe it is. It looks much brighter in the pics because of the time of day and it was a nice sunny day.




haha...those aren't screws they are rivets with a washer on the back so it doesn't pull through. They are recessed slightly and when painted will not be noticed. I hate how the Stillen lip pulls away from the bumper on that corner so I rivet it...little touch up paint and you will not notice the rivets.

My eyes must be going...the trunk looks pretty straight to me when I go outside and look at it. Seam from side to side is correct all the way up. Maybe its the lighting and shadow in the pic it doesn't have the supports on it either in that pic so it may be sitting lower than usual. I will take my ruler out and check before he goes

Its not perfect after all I am no pro but it was free (he paid for supplies). I did get to use a nice paint booth to paint the body though. Was glad I didn't have to sand a lot of dust nibs out this time.


Thats my original Type 2 I bought straight from Stillen in 02 (or whenever...cant remember but know its been a long time) or so...first time its been painted lol. I sold it to David a while back but we are just now putting it on the car.

 

either that or you're just getting better at painting.
a booth REALLY helps on keeping it clean.
counter sink the rivets and throw some duramix on it so it'll be totally hidden. that's what was done on my lip too.

1/2 the people here probably don't even know about the type 2 wing. we're both getting old.

 

That was my original plan. They are counter sunk but I painted it off the car so I didn't want to put the duramix on after. I guess I could do it and just not blend the paint. I will ask David what he wants to do.

 

Too bad our cars are getting old and no one makes anything for them. I have one of those spoilers, but the LEDs are messed up and I never bothered to fix them. I offered it up when I tried to sell my car before, but I guess that wasn't enough incentive to overcome the high price I wanted.

with the kit and the color and the similar style of headlights/corners... am i crazy to say that pic 4 in post 1 almost looks like one of these upon first glance? it's caught me about 5 times and i already know it's a maxima haha




the only thing i would change about that car would be to move that emblem off the mesh so that it's sticking up about an inch. but that's the only thing i would change.

but ah..... if you got enough serious offers, how willing would you be to do painting semi-professionally? My max needs new paint, and i'm planning on getting a Z31 later in the year which for its age, will probably need new paint too.. i know you're a long distance away but if i have the cash (if i get the job i'm trying to get, i would) i wouldn't mind driving it there they flying home, flying back to pick it up when you finished.

Would not be worth it. I am pretty sick of paint and body work (main reason it took so long to do Dave's car) plus by the time I charged what I would need plus flying etc you could have it done by a local pro for the same price. I doubt I do anymore work for others for a while anyway (well no complete paint jobs anyway). I have a 68 Chevy truck and my 66 Chevelle to do for myself and that's probably it for me...and those aren't going to be done any time soon either since I still don't have my shop built.

Thanks, not sure I understand what you are talking about. During the body work process I do all my sanding dry so I don't have any rusting or filler problems. I used BC/CC urethane paint which is not like Lacquer paint. When you use Lacquer a lot of the pro's would sand between coats for a slick show car finish. If that is what you mean it doesn't apply to urethane BC/CC.

Now if you mean after I painted it...I had a little more orange peel on this job than usual (just couldn't get my gun adjusted right for some reason). So I did sand and buff it. I used 1500 trizact on a DA wet then 3000 trizact on a DA wet then buff. I didnt sand it completely show car flat since its a daily driver and a FL car so I wanted to leave as much clear on it as possible. It still has a very slight orange peel to it but far less than brand new vehicles. Its got a great shine and reflection though.

 

Yeah the latter is what I was asking about! Wet sanding b4 buffing it (polishing)!

car looks hot man nice job. I paint cars for a living and by the looks of it you know what your doing. Nice prepping and taping up the door jambs and stuff. I know it is alot of work just to get a car of this age to the point of putting on paint. I use BASF Lacquer paint at work so im not too familier with the urethane but it looks HAWT noen the less not a bad color choice either!

As always - great work Michael. Nice to finally see pics up. This car has so much potential to be a stunner. I am always amazed by the quality of work you have been able to achieve without a traditional spray booth.

 

Nice! If my chassy were in better condition, I would hire you to do mine too.

 

It's always nice to see someone take the time and do it right. Looks real nice. I wish I had some paint experience. Who knows, maybe attempt someday.
