wind noise on highway...strange

Lately if I am on the highway and there is a strong wind coming from the side there is an incredibly loud WHOOOOOOOOOOOO sound. It only happens during strong gust from the side and when on the highway. Hard to diagnose when I am driving it only does it for a second. Anyone evey have this?

Maybe the damn car is haunted

The driver door seal has a tear but it has been like since I have had the car. Plus I am pretty sure if it was that I would know right away since it is right next to me.

Doers the car pull when you hear the sound?

Could be suspension or tyre pressure?
Not my Max, but my company vehicle will cruise at 100 just fine, then suddenly pull to one side and fight me to keep it in a straight line, sounding more like 500kmp/h for a few seconds at a time, feels like the front bumper just vanishes for a while.

Uneven suspension, different suspension parts/brands on either side, tyre pressure?

got any water leaks too? have a friend hose the car down in that area while you sit inside and look for leaks. if water can get in, air can get in too.

Could it be the window? Was the car in any accidents on that side? Mine was in an accident once upon a time and whomever had it first did not have a good job done on it as the rear right door does not quite fit flush with the rest of the body. It sounds like it is cracked a bit or not quite closed all the way because of that.

got a leafblower? perhaps if you can recreate the leak, just for longer than a one-second gust on the highway, you will be able to pinpoint it.

The wind noise is most likely coming from the seal/s around the window glass, they are usually the first to go on these cars. The window seals take the most abuse due to the constant up/down motion of the window glass. You can usually find the leaking window seal by spraying water(garden hose) around each window seal area, the one/s that easily let water inside the car should be the source of the wind noise also.

The only solution is new seals from the dealer, don't bother with used..

Im Just throwing this out there. Could it possibly be something in the wheel well since in my case it sounds as if it is coming from the back left wheel. It kinda sounds like it is the wheel but I have only heard the sound twice and both times were about a month apart and only on the highway going about 80 or above. my question is that is it possible that it is something to do with the wheel berrings or does the infrequency rule that out?

well I got the Max out on an open piece of TX highway and got some high speeds going and no ghost noise so whatever it is only affects it with the wind to the side.

Dude, same here. I took my visor off several years ago because of it. I remember the first time it happened I was actually taking a fellow .Org'er for a ride to show him teh true V3 powAh11//one (since he was a VG boy) and it scared both of us sh*tless.

It took me MONTHS to figure out what it was because it was so overwhelmingly loud I couldn't tell where it was coming from!

I saw a comment on a YouTube video very similar to that. Two guys in an J30, trying out the top speed and the sunroof popped open and scared them both "****less" ..... same person?

I would have suggested the sunroof seals in my original answers, but nothing was said about having one. Ive noticed that sound is alot more common on my new ride with a sunroof, than my old one without.
