Best place to hide a radar detector on the 6th gen? I want to buy a sti driver and hide it somewhere so you cant easily see but it still has a good view of the road.

There's the STI-R, but it's twice the price...

Hide it in plain sight. I love this little mount bracked. I agree with you though stealth is best.

These pics are from before I had it hardwired in.

IMAGINE THIS WITHOUT THE CORD:

I hard wired mine in and ran the wire in the drivers side panel. Then i mounted the detecter behind that tinted portion of the windscreen at the top. Picks up everything, is hidden and you can even see the wire being that it in the panel.

In Canada they are illegal to use. You can own them but not use them. Go ahead and use it, but if a Police officer suspects you have one in the car, you will be subject to a reasonable search of your vehicle for the device.

Plus $140 Fine
Plus Seizure of the device.
Plus 4 Demerit points
Plus 3 year driver record impact.
Plus higher insurance rates as a "high risk" driver.

Go ahead and use one.

In canada I know it is Illegal. What you can do is get the radar detectors that consist of hidden mounts which will go into the grill of the car and then one rear which will go onto the back licence plate. Then there is a control module which you can hide in the compartment under the climate control area (near the shifter) Keep in mind the unit I am speaking of is also a laser diffuser so if you get lasered the cop will get no reading off your car which may cause him to suspect something. I cant remember the name of it but my friend has one for sale.

The story that I have always heard was the cop puts the radar detector under your tire and makes you drive over it. Of course this could be what they make the Americans they catch do since most of that other stuff does not effect anyone not from here.

They are illegal up here in Canada....in fact the cops up here have special equipment to detect the use of Radar Detectors...go figure. I've already had two confiscated in the police province of Ontario...they are such sheep in Ontario...people there actually put up with that Sh#t! The second time I was ticketed. We're not even allowed to tint our front window anymore too. If they catch you, they can either give you a 48 hour warning or a fine and then they put your plates in their computer so that if you re-tint they know and the second time it's a wopping $800! Sorry to digress. BTW - I think detectors are great if you can use them...I hear that Beltronics (made in Canada) are the best and now have anti-detector technology! YEY!

That is the hidden display, it moves the display from the top unit to a hidden location. But you still need to actual detector to do its job.

STI driver is the only one not detected by their spectre RDD. So it's the only one you can have there. Period. But oh well, I'm into scuba diving these days and I might buy 3K of gear so the radar detector will have to wait

w00t. scuba diving FTW

Yeah it's a real shame that we can't use them up in Canada.
But I'd definitely go for top of the line if I had to choose, Beltronics STI-R.
That way the cops can't detect it, and you can hardwire it to your car and not have to worry about them ever seeing it, in other words, peace of mind.

How much was that ? was it worth it ?

My cousin had a V1 for years and I finally bulge and got one.. so tonight we pulled up to the gas station and like 4 cops are sitting there and the damn thing goes off.

My cousin quickly turns down the volume and tells me my radar isnt stealth enough..

I didnt think its a big deal , I dont think its illegal in FL.

Just wondering why you got yours with the hidden display?

I need to hide it because it's illegal in quebec canada. They have spectre II RDD. The only one that's not detected is the STI.

LOL @ all this Radar detector stuff. I wanted to buy a new one, but after seeing all the new laser speed detection equipment now, its not worth it. Cops have a hand held device with a viewing glass, and they can pick and choose what car to laser. Not like radar where they aren't quite sure which car is speeding on a 4 lane highway. Plus, laser is a nice small beam, if aimed at your license plate, your detector in the windshield will never pick it up.

Not illegal here either. But it still pisses them off to know that we have technology that can detect them while they are trying to catch us.

The reason I have it is when Im on the highway and I catch a signal the arrows light up. I dont want to be driving down a highway at night with my car lit up so this helps keeping a lower profile plus it looks nice.

The numbers for radar are getting smaller and smaller, and radar detectors are getting more and more expensive. For me its cheaper to ease off the gas a bit.

They are illegal to use on all military installations no matter what state you are in. Hawaii Police Department also claims they are illegal here but can't produce the violation code or the law that states the legality of them.

I have a cobra that I got early last year that I am going to rip apart and install into my Rearview mirror with the indication visible in the review mirror. This will be done while car is in the shop getting repaired. I need to find some see through mirror material for this. If it works like I think it will I will post a DIY. If not ohh well $300 down the drain and well it's not being used now anyway due to me living on a Naval Base in Hawaii. I know K40 is a company with a remote system and there is Passport and Belair.

it works in thye tinted portion of the windwhield? I had read that you couldnt put it there.

What about putting it on the bottom driver side of the windshield, just in the corner where the pillar hides it from the side, and it cant really be seen from the front?

Why wouldn't it work, the tint is factory not film and mine works just fine. Not to mention at the highest point of the car for better detection and range!!!

Laser is used alot, but there are laser jammers that are priced decent and very effective. Radar detectors do work well behind tint, as long as the tint isnt metallic.

The use of a radar detector in a passenger vehicle is legal in all states with the exception of Virginia, Washington DC. and on military bases.

Radar detectors are illegal in all commercial vehicles weighing over 10,000 pounds.

In areas that radar detectors are illegal, law enforcement use a device called the Spectre that is able to detect the use of radar detector in your car or truck. Laser Jammers and Radar Jammers are illegal in the states of Nebraska, Minnesota, Utah, California, Oklahoma, Virginia, Colorado, Illinois and Washington DC.

I really need to figure this thing out in order to take it apart and do my magic to the inside for my radar detector. Once done I will share what I did with pics and results concidering I am on a military base where they use radar guns constantly.
