Launch an 02 AT?

Wanted to throw this out there and get everyone's opinions and tips on the best way to launch an automatic from the start line. I know, I know... I get no props for driving an auto. Shoot me...

Do you leave the TCS on and gradually press the accelerator?

Do you turn the TCS off and just mash the gas?

What works best for you guys?

Thanks in advance...

if you get TCS, just floor it
if no TCS, half throttle first then floor it.

Turn TCS off. Brake torque (foot on the gas and brake) to about 1500 rpm, then hit the gas as you let off the brake. Give it enough gas to haze the tires but not spin them hard. You'll know when you get it right because your car will pull hard with no bog, by the time you are doing 25 mph or so, you should be able to get on it all the way.

i agree with this for the most part but i do think ur suspension plays a big part, with coilovers you can just mash it off the line cause u have little or no body lift, so that reduces wheel spin tremendously... im stock so i try all rpm's until i spin too much highest i did was 2K and got my PB... but scott's technique is good also

Weight transfer sucks with FWD...

First time I romped on it after I bought my car, it spun the tires so hard it shifted into 2nd gear when I was going about 20 mph.

yea, DE-k's have a lot of low end torque also, if you mash that thing from a dead stop on stock springs you'll probebly spin all through 1st... auto, happened to me before.. it just never shift into another gear before it needs to

I'd like to see a vid too. Just out of curiosity, what kind of tires do you have? I drove a 2006 Altima SE-R automatic once and even with traction control off it just chirped off the line and that was it.

Some people on here talk about wildly spinning all the way through 3rd on the dragstrip with a pretty much stock motor and automatic transmission. I have a hard time believing some people's Maxima's have that little traction unless they are running two donut spares on the front tires.

1st... i never thought it was anything special that a stock 5th gen spun through 1st so i never thought that was worth video taping...

2nd... if you look at my profile and sig you would see that i no longer have my 5th gen

3rd... i dont see why lie about a stock car spinning wheels, with as much body lift as it gets i would think it be more abnormal for the car not to spin... just sayin

i can understand you and others not believing, and trust me im not here to seem like im tony stewart or no professional driver with an automatic vehicle, nor am i here to make ppl into believers... i have no motive to lie about anything, i also had my 5th gen on coilovers and modded with intake and exhaust constantly chirp second on the streets just when i pull out of my mechanics garage, of coarse i dont have video of that because my life isnt being camcorded, but datdude20 which is an orger can vouch for that, but again you guys believe what u want im not gettn paid by nissan in any way shape or form for me to be even making any of this up

I'm sure tires are the issue here. Not mad crazy power spewing from your minor bolton dek.

Remember guys tires make a big difference. I could get mine to spin in 3rd with some crappy 225 width a/s tires, then i went to 245 potenzas and barely spin in the top of 1st (6 speed).

could be... i dont remember what the tires looked like when i was doing it, and it was potenza's... i guess it would be and thats what helped me to get the times i got with just those mods in an auto
