Me vs. I35

Young kid in a brand new I35 (250-260 hp?) pulled up next to me at a stoplight late Saturday nite and took off, unfortunately he caught me by surprise and I didn't catch up to him. Next light though, we pulled evenly until about 60 mph when I started pulling ahead.
The kid gave me a nasty look and turned onto a side street after that, more than a little ticked off that a 7-year old 4-door AUTOMATIC with 120k miles could still hold up to his $35k luxury car. Long live the 4th gens.

Not calling BS on you but those new I35 and Maxima 3.5s are really quick. I have a 5-speed SE w/ 95k miles and I wouldn't dare mess with one!

I know they are a little heavier, and the I35 uses a more conservative transimission program... but still, we're still talking about a 65 horsepower difference!

I'm guessing you have a few mods?

Last year's I30 was a full second slower in the 0-60 than the comparable Max was. So I would assume that this year is the same story, And yeah I have some mods Stillen intake and Y-pipe, HKS muffler, JWT ECU, springs/shocks/rims etc.

Well the mods make it pretty close to same 0-60 times, I would imagine, and then the mods really help in the higher end, so there ya have it. Nice job! Tho if the KID modded his I35, then I think we know you would be in trouble. Still cool to beat a stock 2k2 I35, tho!

He was pretty quick, and I didn't even begin to pull away from him until about 60 mph. First time that I have actually noticed the high-end difference in a race.

A stock 95-5spd Maxima should pull easily from an I35. It was just tested in one of the car magazines and it ran 0-60 in I think 7 seconds flat. A stock 5spd runs 0-60 in 6.6.

True but according to the Gtech on my windshield, my car does 0-60 in 6.62 seconds, which would just about match the new I35s (and pull away at higher speeds).

I guess you haven't been on any other forums yet, but MODS are Modifications to you car. What exactly do you have on your car to get your speed equal with the I35?

SO are you telling me that the I35 is faster than a maxima?

They aren't faster stock, but with some modifcations it easily could be.

K&N intake, Stillen Y-pipe, JWT ECU, HKS muffler, along with the usual suspension/rims stuff. Altogether my car is 1.4 seconds faster in the 0-60 then it was stock.

Do think a changer in a maxima really makes a difference?

Hey that was a good one, right up there with, "Do clear corners really give you 20 horsepower?"

Clear corners give you at LEAST 20 mental horsepower. Don't get me started on rims, 17's give another 30 hp. Add a body kit, lower your car and your mental HP would be equal to that of a 911 Turbo

Really weird because back in May of 1995 C&D got a 95Auto to 60 in 7.3 sec and more recently got the 2k2 3.5 Altima auto to 60 mph in 7.3 sec. The best I have see for the I35 is 6.9-7.0., so I guess some cars come off the line with slightly stronger motors. who would have thought that a 3.5 Alti with 240hp would get the same 0-60 time as a 190hp Max and the Max even had a quicker street start by .7 sec and quicker top gear times from 30-50 mph by .7 sec interesting. I recently raced a stock 95 auto and Iwill say he gave me a good run to about 60mph had him by 1 car length and pulled a little more by 80. Iam not biased to neither because i have both a 97 and the 2k2.
