I don't use my radio and everytime I switch my head unit to radio all I get is the annoying sound of the antenna....how do disconnect the antena

 

OEM headunit or aftermarket?

OEM or aftermarket....gain access to the back of the radio and pull the antenna feed cable

And

If OEM....I'll need to consult the FSM to see what color wire to cut to not trigger the antenna to go up.
If aftermarket.....cut/disconnect the solid blue wire. This will keep your antenna from being powered.

Also, if you don't use your radio, why are you switching your headunit to the radio function???

 

Alternatively, just unplug the antenna itself. Easiest way.

Some headunits won't work if you don't have the antenna cable plugged into the back, so I would just unplug the unit (as I did, since I rarely listen to the radio; the antenna in the rear glass is good enough for me).

In all my years and various headunits, that's never happened to me. Weird.

 

Z33, Pathfinder, etc OEM 6-disc units won't even turn on (IIRC, but they definitely aren't functional) without the antenna plugged in.

Note this is Bose, I've never messed with the 'regular' radio setup.

I figured you might say that. I hate equipment that makes you cycle through stuff to get to what you want.....

 

I have disconnected the antenna before for periods of time (got sick of listening to it go up and down). But I've been listening to a lot of AM radio recently and the antenna in the rear windshield will not pick up any AM by itself. So for the time being, it's plugged in. Pretty easy to disconnect, though.

or, you could do a mod like I did and hook a switch up to put it up only when you need it so you dont have to waste time listening to it go up. its directly underneath my xtra bass switch for my jl amp, comes in real handy.

 

you unplug it through the passenger side of the trunk. It's behind a tab you can pull off to gain access

 

The antenna doesn't go up on my BOSE system when CD or TAPE are playing.



Isn't that the case with most audio systems these days? Seems like it should be.

 

my antenna goes up any time the HU is on ( when i turn the car on) and then goes down whenever i turn it off ( when i turn the car off).

 

Your Bose is working correctly. The OP's stereo is aftermarket. Half of the aftermarket headunits I've seen are smart enough not to power the antenna unless the radio function is used, the other half power up the antenna the second the headunit is turned on.

I'm betting you have an aftermarket headunit

 

This is what I did with my older pioneer headunit. It used to put the antenna up whenever the headunit was on whether it was in cd, aux, or radio. I just wired up a simple toggle switch and put it on the blank panel next to the interior light dimmer.

Now that I have a JVC unit it knows to only put the antenna up when the radio source is being used so I have a switch on my dash that serves no purpose.

i bought the car w/o a functional mast antenna and decided shave the damn thing off. it was easy to get to, just had to remove the bracing for the oem jack and the rest was obvious.
