Has anyone tried these LED Tails?
Has anyone tried these LED Tails?

They look pretty ok to me... but there's an extreme lack of pictures... What does everyone think of these and has anyone tried them?

I have the cleared tail lights with the black housing. I prefer those. They'll probably come with red bulbs but they burn out quickly. I went on www.v-leds.com and bought some red LED lights and they work great. The computer doesn't recognize them so your break light sensor will be on. I'm assuming its because they don't need as much voltage to turn on. I haven't really looked into it so I'm just dealing with it for the time being. Hope that helped.

IIRC those lights are not considered legal, I believe that not only do you need red bulbs but a red reflector as well. I could be wrong but in Mass you have to have red reflectors in your tails, FWIW. Especialy now with the economy cops are on the lookout for any revnue generating offenses.
IMO I wouldn't buy any LED tails that just use a PnP LED bulb. The brightness is okay at night, but not during the day, and they only light up the bulb itself, not the whole reflector. The light is so dim and small that it seems like a huge safety hazard. A lot of guys at Maxus had all-clear tails with LED bulbs, and it made the caravan a little stressful, since their brakelights were very difficult to see. And differentiating between tail lights and brake lights at daytime? No way.
IMO the only right way to do it is to get a PCB and some Superflux LEDs and make your own. If you have soldered before, it isn't too hard.

I agree, same in Florida, got ticketed for the all clear tails down here about a month ago, red reflector is required even though the RX330/350 and the Mountaineer have clear tails, luckily i was in the process of changing my car to smoked lens so i switched to the 01 SE tails and the fine got dismissed.
those arent LED...they are just all-cleared lenses...IMO seeing a yellow/red colored bulb through the clear lense would be ricey..so if you get those lights get LED turn signals and brake lights so the light really will be all cleared out
Sorry to bump an old thread , but I have the black trimmed ones with the clear housing. One of my current tail lights does'nt work while the headlights are on but they both work when the brakes are applied and this only comes on when I turn the headlights on \/

. I plan to put some red reflectors on my rear for the safety of other drivers , but I was just wondering what's the ideal bulb route ? LED's with resistors ?

LEDs are terrible. I said it 15 months ago, and I'll say it again. You're going to have a small red dot of light in an otherwise empty housing. The housings are designed for a regular bulb, which is omnidirectional. It shoots light everywhere so the whole housing lights up. LEDs are directional. They shoot light in one direction, so the whole housing will not light up.
If you want led tails, buy some, and custom retro it. Also everyone with brake light bulb out indicators on you need load resistors to increase resistance so the car won't think the bulb is out.
