I cut mine down about an inch 4 years ago and have had the same Momo **** on with zero problems. Order a quality aftermarket **** and you will not have any issues.
i have a black **** that i bought and didnt need.
i was able to fix mine... i broke it when i took it off to run my XM receiver. it was never as tight as it was before i broke it and it annoyed the hell out of me.
i bought the black one- installed it and it had the same play in it. so what i did was removed the ****, clip and sleeve- leaving only the shift rod. i took my Dremel and cut two more 'scores' into the rob about 1/2" below the factory scores. doing that allowed the **** to sit as low on the rod as possible. the new cuts that i made allowed me to reinstall the factory clip that keeps the **** from pulling off. the sleeve then clipped back on over the clip.
very simple to fix- IF thats your problem.

Tons of universial shift ***** and Ebrake handle availables online. My shift **** is Momo red crystal shifter. My ebrake handle is Tenko-R billet aluminum.
The calf leather Ebrake boot is from:
http://www.redlinegoods.com/
I cut the entire rubber off the ebrake handle to get everything on.
