Complete brake job, Excessive rotor heat ?
Complete brake job, Excessive rotor heat ?
Just replaced my brakes......Rebuilt calipers up front, rebuilt calipers and mounting brackets in the rear. New metalmaster pads, and , RTP rear blank rotors and Napa Front blanks. (RTP sent me the wrong ones for the front.) Done over 2 days real pain in my ***. So ive greased everything i can think of all metal on metal contacts. And bled them, but not in the correct order.
Problem is the rotors seem to be gettin too hot. Ive never done brakes before, except for pads. Is it normal for the rotors to get really hot as they get broken in? All the pins seem to be greased properly. I had to reuse the old sealing washers on the rear lines. they dont appear to be leaking though.
Any suggestions?
And the left rear rotor is hotter than the right.

What do you mean they get 'too hot'?
What temperature? How are you measuring the temperature?
Which rotors? Fronts? Rears?
Is this after long drives and lots of braking, a quick trip around the block?
Any reason you replaced all of the calipers?

By too hot i mean more so than the old setup. i am not measuring the temp. Only by feel. Fronts are hotter than old setup. the rear right is normal, and the left rear is a good bit hotter than the right. Quick trips get as hot as 20 min drives. Rear calipers were sticking and fronts were leaking. I think i got all that.

Where did you get the new calipers?
Really if this is all based on feel, it could be nothing more than your imagination.
Have you made sure the LR parking brake cable isn't hung up or damaged?
First off no kudos for all the mixed/matched parts.
I think your trippin too hard, brakes get hot by nature, thats how they work. You have to break them in properly to get the best life. Typically a 30 to 0 in exactly 5 seconds with 30 seconds of normal driving to cool them off, do this about 5 times to propely burnish brakes.
Don't worry so much.... i don't think i've ever heard someone complain about their brakes gettin too hot lol.

Its all good just givin ya ****. Don't worry about it, its prob fine. Unless you start seeing some smoke or smelling the brakes your ok. Its normal for some steam to come off brand new rotors and pads but just for a lil bit. Your fine.

To find out if you're tripping or not......
Jack it up and spin each wheel, they should all continue to spin for 2+ revolutions, if it only makes it 1/2 turn you know you have a problem.

If it's too hot to touch, then it's too hot. Something's binding. If that's the case, then it can lead to your brakes failing. Heat can cause your rubber brake line to blow up like a balloon when you step on the pedal. Steel braided lines will prevent this.
