the ultimate question about a Bosal b-pipe

first of i have a 97 maxima.

i was on amazon and came across 2 different b-pipes, one was described as " w/ o2 sensor" and the other said "w/o o2 sensor" i was just wondering if you guys thought they were talking about the o2 bung located in the s-pipe. im replacing my entire exhaust (exhaust manifold back) w. new parts.

heres the links: first one is w/othe o2, second one is w/ o2
http://www.amazon.com/Bosal-287-703-...tive&carId=001

http://www.amazon.com/Bosal-286-159-...tive&carId=001

i went on the north american bosal website and it gave me 2 options to chose from:
1. FI non turbo GAS
2. FI non turbo GAS (thru 3/99)

the first one ended up giving me part #287-703, which was the one listed w/o the o2 sensor, and the second one gave me part# 286-159, which was the one w/ the o2 sensor. Neither of the diagrams showed that little s pipe w/ the o2 bung.

i just wanted to make sure before i bought it that i was getting the right one.

thanks!

You need to look under your car and see where your bung is. Then order the right one. That is a stock photo, that's why they both look the same.

These are just stock replacements.

95-96 max's have the o2 in the cat. 97-99 have the o2 in the b pipe. if yours is a 97 then you need the b pipe with the o2 bung.

ok, i jsut wanted to make sure i was buying the right piece because most other b- pipes dont come w/ the o2 bung, you have to buy that extra piece.

Don't make the mistake I did. I bought the one without the O2 bung. That one is for 95-96 Max's, the one you need is the pipe with the O2 bung. Kevin Goodwin welded on a custom bung and everything was all set. If you use the 95-96 pipe on a 97-99 car then it will eliminate the S pipe which houses the rear O2 sensor. But anyway, great product and great fit, will buy again.
BTW, I got it at rockauto.com, very cheap price. Use this code for 5% off: 18843631587733

Judging by the length of pipe before the resonator they are both the same length overall. This means you will remove your stock S pipe entirely. Plus they wouldnt have an O2 bung if they were bolting to the S pipe. Also notice the bend in the O2 pipe, that mimics the S pipe's bend for clearance.

Hi all,

I came across this thread when I was trying to find an answer as to which Bosal Resonator/Center pipe replacement I should order online for my 98 Max. This is because, as a few have mentioned, it's a little confusing from the Bosal North American catalogue.

I took the plunge based on JSetter and NevadaJack_9 comments. It turned out part# 286-159 is the correct part number for 97-99 Fed Spec Maximas (3L FI Non-Turbo GAS (w/O2 Sensor)).

For part# 286-159, the 6" intermediate pipe, between the cat and the resonator, already comes welded on to the resonator with a bung for the rear O2 sensor. So if you are replacing a stock system, the OEM intermediate pipe would not get re-used. Just something to remember when you are looking for replacement gaskets.
In terms of fit, the resonator hangs lower than stock. Because of that, it does have the tendency to scrape on large speed bumps etc. if you're going too quickly with stock ride height.

Part# 287-703 (3L FI Non-Turbo GAS (w/o O2 Sensor)) is for 95-96 Fed Spec Maximas where the O2 sensor plugs into the Cat.

Just wanted to share this with everyone, focusing on part #'s and the catalogue descriptions, in case they are looking at buying a Bosal replacement.

I'll throw a comment in here.

The Bosal B-pipe I threw in my 99 looks like a quality pipe, but fits horribly and positioned my muffler tip off center from the bumper cut out. It also didn't line up very well with the mount at the curve.
