Please No Caps.

Have you checked your Grounds, Lines to your alternator/battery? Do you have anything drawing MASSIVE amounts of amperage? Idk. Huge Audio system mabey?

Are you getting new or reman alternators?

Why not just go with a new higher output alternator if you've got a system? From somewhere that actually has quality alternators, not Autozone.

The system could have a drain and be killing your battery overnight. Why are you changing the alt all these times? Have you checked your alt to see if its dead? What is the voltage across the battery terminals when the cars running? What about the alt terminal?

Just because your alt wire looks fine on the outside doesn't mean it isn't corroded and rotting away on the inside

I highly doubt your starter is killing your battery AND alternator

EDIT: after checking all that check the voltage with your system and headlights on. See if theres a big drop. Thats why pmohr was saying you may need a higher output alt

Did you check your three fuses, often times bad alternator will blow a fuse and then after replacing the alt theres no improvement. After its all together check for voltage drop at the fuses. If you see full batt voltage with the test leads on the two sides of the fuse, its blown whether it "looks" good or not.
Could also be your idiot light or anything else between the Alt and ignition switch.
I HIGHLY doubt you had 3 or 4 bad alts regardless of where they came from.

I had the same problem in my 96 max. I also have a system in my max u don't need a more powerful alt. What u have to do is get rid of the autozone battery .autozone battery suck I had the top of the line one in my max and it would not hold up even over night I would come back to a dead car. What I did was go to sears and the gold series battery and no more dead battery. They even have a platium series that's better than the gold if u want but it's 250$ it's supposed to be like a optima battery. Or just get a optima yellow top but there hard to find !! Hope that's work out for u it did for me

You can't say he doesn't need a more powerful alt if you don't know what kind of system he was running. I think its a valid suggestion

I'm tryin to help you but you still haven't responde to my post. Whats the voltage across your battery terminals?

If you don't know how to then just get a Voltmeter or multimeter and put the leads on the battery terminals. if it is below 13.5 (which is low anyway) while running then some is most likely wrong with your alt (wiring etc).

If you don't wanna check these things then why start a thread?

You 'checked' the wiring...how? A visual? You expect to be able to see internal damage?

Check out the wiring properly.

I would never trust the Platinum series Die Hard batteries, personally. Very first shipment we got of the 'leak free' batteries were all recalled...due to massive leakage. I've heard similar bad things since.

So your trying to say these good alternators go in your car... and each comes out dead?

At what point are u gonna stop wasting money on batteries and alternators... I would think after the first replacement of the alternator and battery and no success you would start to eliminate possible causes..

I think you should stop going to autozone and hit up your mechanic lol

Oh and how do you judge wires by just looking?..

If your not going to properly diagnose, sell your max and ride a bicycle.
You've blown off every answer we've given you. If you've honestly followed any steps given, you need tell us. You need to check continuity or voltage drop with a DVOM (voltmeter) YOU CANT TELL BY LOOKING.

Hey Guy, I had this same problem a few months ago. I killed 3 alternator in 2months. I did some probing around because i had new alternators and i know there's no way i should be killing them. In my search on line i found that the 4th gen does have a wire harness issue. my problem was right at the passenger side headlight area. they is a wire harness in that area as well as other place. i broke open the harness to find demage wiring that was touching one another and at some point touching metal. once i fix that problem i've been good. Just a suggestion any electrical part/check wiring.

hope it helps

Im having the same exact problem.I went and bought a brand new alternator harness through the dealer,50$..aafter replacing the first alternator and the 2nd one went out last week. Then, today,Im in town car wont start,I get a jump, leave it running while I go in store, idle ing didn't sound right, tried to give it gas/ reve the motor and it wouldn't do anything, but die again, spitting and sputtering just like before,What else can I do to fix this? I can't afford to pay major bucks on this,I cant keep having this happen either. No warning signs,no lights came on,nothing!
